Morine received a $22 twenty-first payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving these transfers is that I have been paying school fees for my niece whom I have been taking care of since her parents died. I have lived with her for two years and before the transfers, I used to struggle to raise money for her fees arrears since I only depend on a small income from casual work. Most of the times, she would be sent home because of her fees arrears. Since I started receiving these transfers, I have been paying her fees arrears on a monthly basis which has really helped in clearing her arrears. I am glad next year, she will report back with nil fees arrears."

"After receiving the second transfer, I decided to spend part of it on the construction of two houses; a small kitchen and another bigger house to accommodate all the members of my household. I also bought ten sacks of which we have been using as foodstuff and the remaining amount went to the payment of school fees and the labor fee for the constructors who were working on my two houses."

"The most visible change is that I have completed the purchase of a piece of land. I am very happy because I had spent over two years without any hope of acquiring that plot. The cash transfers have also helped in the payment of school fees. This was a big challenge to the family as we had no other source of income."

Irine received a $537 initial payment.
"On receiving my first transfer, I spent the first 20000 KES on buying a cow. It was the first option for our household since for the past years we have been spending up to our last coin buying milk. I also considered buying clothing for all the members of my household since most of our clothes were tattered except only one pair which everyone would preserve for some special occasions. Household goods which include a variety of foodstuffs were also in the list of our purchases and the remaining amount went to paying school fees for my children."

"The biggest difference ib my daily life is that a now have a complete pair of oxen and a dairy cow. Previously, I used to own one bull which was still stress because I had to hire the other one for them to plough. Sometimes I could not afford to hire the other one and thus was resulting in getting some low harvests since I could not complete ploughing an acre. I am now a happy farmer because the pair will not only help me in ploughing my farm but also to my neighbor's farms. This will be at a fee, hence generating an income. My farm products will now be good and this means my family and I shall no longer starve. Secondly, with the dairy cow, I will be getting milk for free and I am planning to sell the remaining liters to my neighbors and getting an additional income. I will no longer strain in meeting my family's basic needs and I will be paying school fees in good time."

"Having a dairy cow and the goats are the most valuable assets I can proudly mention. I believe that I will achieve most of my goals from the sale of milk from the dairy cow. Not only will I have a healthy family but also increase my income with this dairy project. With the goats, I plan to sell the offspring since they reproduce faster. The money will help me pay school fees for my children. One of my kids who had dropped out of school to a huge school fee balance will now be able to resume her studies. As time goes by, I will have accumulated enough money to start another business. This will ensure I am financially secure. From that point, I believe my life will now be the same again."

"I spend most of the time around my home and therefore investing in livestock farming seems fit for me.When I receive this money I will buy a dairy cow(300 USD) and 3 sheep(120 USD).I have two cows and adding one more translates to an increase in milk production. This will go a long way in helping me satisfy the family's basic needs. The sheep will help me pay school fees for my children. They multiply very fast.I have one child in the university and another in secondary school.School fees has been a heavy burden since I mainly depend on subsistence farming which does not earn me much. "Receiving this money means clearing school fees for my three children next year, two in the university and one in secondary school. I will then use remaining money to buy one dairy cow to give me an assurance of daily income sustainability from selling milk to ensure my children never lack basic needs."

"I had started a shop in town which was my other source of income besides doing casual construction jobs. Having an additional source of income to me was my greatest desire since casual jobs were unreliable. When I received my first transfer, I invested KES 20000 by purchasing an adequate stock for my shop. In addition to this, I also bought three goats at KES 9000. I also spent KES 13500 to hire oxen to plough my farm and also pay farmers who helped me weed my maize farm. Apart from that I also paid school fees for my children. I used the remaining amount to buy food and a few household items such as chairs and tables."

"The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months is that I have been able to fully pay for children’s school fees. I am now a stress-free parent after ensuring I have completed school fee payment for them. Unlike before where they were being sent back every time, I feel that I have done the best by ensuring the same do not occur."
