Richard
received a $283 initial payment.
"I'm feeling so excited of receiving my first GD payment because in my entire life I've gotten money of such donation from anyone or organization and the donation is going to change my house hold lives. Before GD came, I have being producing canoe for sale and fishing on the sea. This is my house hold's only source of income. So with the presence of GD in my family's lives, I intending to open business that will serve as an additional source of income and to build a house that will be roofed with a color iron zinc. These will be the major life time development and a dream comes through in my family lives."

Hannah
received a $297 second payment.
"Right now I am one of the happiest person in my village. Since I started receiving payment from GiveDirectly, the thought of becoming an employer keeps inspiring me to dream more.
I never thought about buying fishing net and fishing boat before, but with this new transfer I was able to buy net for fishing. With the fish, I will be able to sell to improve the livelihood of my family even after GiveDirectly leaves our town. I'm also thinking on paying someone to cut enough woods so I can be able to make firecoal for sale. Establishing a coal business coupled with purchasing a fishing boat and net has been my newest goal since I received my second transfer from GiveDirectly."

"I am HIV positive and adequate nutrition is something that I always suffer with. We cannot afford food sometimes, that leaves me hungry and sick. My children have also been going hungry these days. It is sad to see but there is not much that me or my husband can do, sometimes he has to go to the Monkeybay area to do some fishing labour as here in our village some days business fails completely.
Another challenge is that we rely so much on farming. This year we had lost hope because we know for sure that we cannot afford fertilizer and money to fix our hoes and slashers. If we recieve this money, so much worry will be offloaded from us."

"On many occasions my wife and I have planned to buy zinc and other materials for our house but we have not been able to implement those plans.
The money we generate from fish sale is not much to save for a long term plan.
Currently our house is leaking and part of it has started breaking apart.
If we are blessed to receive money from Give Directly, I will use some to build my house, buy fishing nets and send my kids to school."

"My major challenge is the difficulty have I have in getting my own cannoe.
The canoe issue has become a major challenge for me because it is through fishing I provide for my family and I.
My brother and I along with two other relatives are using one canoe. This has made life so difficult because I only have five days to fish in a whole month because everyone has a week on the canoe."
