How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I had a goal to build my house after I had received the money because I had a grass thatched house. Maintaining the grass thatched house has been so difficult for me because I have problems with my leg and it was difficult for me to cut grass and I decided to build a house which I couldn't have managed to build had it been GiveDirectly didn't give the money.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I'm my opinion GiveDirectly dies well by giving us money to buy whatever we want and there is nothing that it doesn't do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my money building a house because this is what I wanted most.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I did not have food in my home. Now i am very happy to say that we are eating all meals of the day. I had to work to find food and i could only provide one meal per day.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to buy 24 ironsheets and this cost me MK 168,800. I then bought bricks and also paid the builders. I bought 5 bags of maize so that i feed the builders with while they are working . My house had a bad roof and was worried with the rainy season coming up.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money will mean alot to me as i will be able to build a proper house for myself and my children. During rainy season we are always worried as our house leaks and the house is always full of water and we can't even sleep. I will also use the money to buy food due to lack of money we hadly eat appropriately i believe with this money our health will be improved and we will no longer be malnourished.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the afternoon because that's when i and my family have our main meal, in the morning we just eat porridge because that's what we can afford and it's not everyday that we manage to.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a widower and HIV positive is very hard for me as i don't have money to look after my family and myself, the medications that i take everyday requires that i should be eating in a healthy manner but i don't because of not having enough money. My children have no clothes and the clothes that i have well wishers gave them to me
