How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different in that I now have a cow that I never had and was saving towards for along time but to no success. Along with the garden that I hired, this cow will act as my investment. I will cultivate some crops for commercial use and add up with some money that I will get after selling off a calf to keep my son in school. Before, I used to brew alcohol to keep my only son in school and raising the fees was close to impossible because I had to do other extra activities such as toil in other people's gardens to raise the amount needed in school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done well by bringing about peace and settling people in their homes as there are no conflicts for fear to lose transfers. To me, it has given me unconditional transfer that has enabled me to build and take my son to school. On the other hand GiveDirectly has greatly improved my community.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer Ugx 550000 to pay fees and buy some school requirements for my son who was joing senior one. I then hired land at Ugx 400000 that I will cultivate on until my money is given back. I bought a cow at Ugx 600000. This will act as investment to keep my son in school as I can sell off the calves.
