How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I definitely have new goals set that I see achieving because I have already set them. I would want to buy a second poshomill so that ill be able to fully cater to the people of my village. The cows that I have need napier grass and a Chaff cutter would be best for that job. With my cows producing milk I will be able to save enough and make sure these goals are achieved
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
For GiveDirectly to help us all equally is one of the things I see the organization do well. We were also able to undergo thorough training on how to use the mobile money application, and they also gave us ideas on how we would spend the transfers in ways that would benefit us. In my opinion I haven't seen anything they don't do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was able to spend most of my transfer buying a poshomill machine that I've been using to run my new business. Building a structure for my poshomill also uses most of my transfers. I'm glad I took that step because I'm now a business owner and I can cater to my family comfortably

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It's been my norm to read all the incoming messages and I still remember that it was exactly 9.12 am when I received the good news from GiveDirectly. I was on my way to the shop and my heart was filled with joy as I read the message over and over again. This message gave me hope that I would soon achieve my dream of owning a posho mill business.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
It has been my dream to start a posho mill business in my neighborhood as a source of livelihood. I had not been able to achieve this due to a lack of funds since I depend on farming and the income is not that encouraging due to changing climatic conditions and diseases currently affecting maize plantations. With my recent transfer, I was able to build a room and my second transfer will come in handy in purchasing the milling machine. I believe that my life will have changed completely in the next few months as I will have started this business and providing for my family's needs will be easier than it is now.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my transfer, I spent KES 40000 from it to build a room for business since I am planning to use my next transfer to buy a posho mill machine after topping up some amount. This has always been my dream business and I am glad that I am about to actualize it. Using the remaining KES 14000, I purchased some food items and clothes for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
In our family, we have a small land which I bought from my neighbor. I bought 0.3 acres which I find very small to do large-scale farming. I can only do kitchen gardens for household use but for a very long time I have wished to have an income-generating activity. When I get this transfer I will use it in the construction and purchase of a posho mill. I believe this transfer will be sufficient to purchase it. I usually depend on the Kenya Women loan which enabled me to purchase this land. The limit given can only go up to KES 30000 due to limited resources used as guarantors. My ambition was to get this posho mill but my loan limit is little to purchase it.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is the time when I have just woken up and nothing has disturbed me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship has been a lack of money. My husband came from a poor family. He has been supporting his siblings and family for their needs. That's why we decided to look for our land away from our parents because it could not accommodate all of us. For a very long time, we have been wishing to have income-generating activities to meet all our needs including those of extended family.
