How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Things have not been too well with my family. It has been difficult for us as a family, sometimes we can hardly get enough food to eat. Our house has been in a very bad situation. It leaks during the rainy season. We have been unable to renovate it because of the lack of money. I had no new goals before receiving this transfer. My old goal has been to build a new house. I was overwhelmed when I received my payment. My life will never be the same again. I am so grateful for this golden opportunity.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does not do anything wrongly. It gives us unconditional cash and ask for nothing in return. Our lives have improved greatly since we got enrolled in this program. We are so excited for this.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was overwhelmed when I received my payment. I used some of my money to buy zinc. I also bought gas for powersaw. I bought a bag of rice to eat. I saved a little amount to add up and pay the contractors that will build my house.

The first time I received my transfer I was excited until I started dancing. I was only living on farming to survive. Things are been difficult for me, my children are been out of school. I sometimes used to think about my life because it was not easy for me and my family. I have been living in this old house with my family. with this, transfer I'm going to be able to get myself a new house and pay for my children's tuition.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life right now is that I'm about to have a new house. I was living in an old house with my family. I was not even able to provide for my family. life had changed for me now, especially in my village. I'm grateful for this opportunity.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
A huge transfer will be used for my house because it has been my first concern. I bought my first bundle of zinc with a few pick nails. I also purchased some provisions for the house. my children were out of school, so I got them back to school. I even bought myself a music player.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have 5 children living in Buchanan with my older sister, their father died in March 2021. Though we were not together, but he was a help to his children. I got married to my current husband 2 years ago but things have been so diificult. Moreover, i am his second wife and i also need to take care of my children. Therefore, when I receive this transfer; I will change the roof of my house from thatch to zinc. Spend portion of it, on my children well being. I also want to invest into small business which will enable me to generate more money, to take care of me and my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In 2002 my oldest son left in water in Grand Bassa. I worried and nothing changed about. Since than, I always think of his siblings when they are far away from me. Therefore i feel happy whenever they are okay and no bad news from them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My current hardship is how to take care of my children. My sister is the only person taking care of them and i don't have money to help her. My sister is a single mother with 5 children also. I am making garden just to be a help to them.
