How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am glad that I now have a lactating dairy cow which I couldn't afford to buy were it not for GiveDirectly. Again, we managed to expand our house and now we have two rooms one which we use as sitting room and the other as bedroom. We no longer squeeze ourselves in one room as it was before we expanded the house
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by not being biased on thier selection process. All the eligible residents were considered for the program without looking at thier background. Personally, I never saw anything which wasn't done well. Every step was transparent and that was fair.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The second transfers which I received from GiveDirectly, I spent KES 37000 on buying a dairy cow. I have been buying milk for use at home at very high cost. I needed to bring this to an end and bought a lactating cow. I then spent KES 8000 on buying building materials for expanding our house. The remaining amount, I spent on buying maize and other foodstuffs.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was just out and about on my daily duties when I saw message notification on my phone and it was the transfer that we had been promised from GiveDirectly. I was very excited and I could not hide my happiness.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have neever owned a cow in my life and I bought one with the transfer. I want milk for my children to drink and enjoy nice and tasty tea since they have never had the opportunity to enjoy it. This is going to improve their health and strengthen their immunity.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought a cow that is about to calf and extended our house. I also bought a bag of maize and bought clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my family shall always have sufficient milk for consumption. We have been purchasing milk from our neighbors but at times we cannot afford due to lack of money. Since milk is one of the most volatile food items in our household, owning a cow will ensure the continued presence of relatively sufficient amounts of the product. Overall, we shall greatly appreciate GiveDirectly for the boost.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a peasant farmer who always wakes up at dawn to visit my farms, the happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I have accomplished my roles and responsibilities. This means that my family shall get some produce for consumption in the future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the continued inadequacy or regular absence of milk in our household. My little kid relies mainly on milk since it offers the needed nutrients. Unfortunately, the little income that my husband attains from his casual job is not enough to ensure we purchase enough amounts of milk daily. Besides, we spend most of the income on purchasing milk and other basic needs, meaning that none is left for development.
