How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that I managed to pay school fee for daughter with ease after I have gone through a lot, I was trying but I could not make ends meet and my daughter was almost dropping out of school. I am happy because they are now learning without any difficulties. I also now have my own cattle that I will be able to sell when I need to pay school fee for my children.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give directly does not involve third party in their program, they deal with people directly. I also feel it was a very good thing to use M-pesa as away of sending money to us because it is very convenient and safer way send cash. Their stuffs were also transparent in everything they were doing, there were no any signs of corruption. I did not see what Give directly did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent most of the transfer to pay secondary school fee for my daughter who was sent home for school fees arrears. My daughter has been staying home for sometimes since I was not able to pay for her school fee arrears, I was so much stressed because I was not sure when I was going to get money to pay for my daughter school fee. I thank God Give directly came to my rescue and I managed to pay her school fee and now my daughter is in school learning like other students. I also spent the transfer to start livestock farming where by I bought goats and started goat rearing. I thought of starting livestock farming because it a way of saving money and the same time making it grow, this is because have so many children in school that I need to pay their fee . By doing livestock farming I will be able to sell the them once they have matured at a higher price and spend the money to pay their school fee. The remaining balance I spent to buy maize for my family consumption being that I did not get enough harvest last season.
