How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I was able to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I spent KES 35,000 for my children in secondary school. This gave me peace of mind because I knew my children will not be sent home to collect the school fees. I do my chores peacefully and ensure that I save some money to pay for the next academic term. My children used to be sent home and this was affecting their performance. I depend on small scale farming and I was not in a position to pay school fees on time. My children were so demoralized because they could spent more time at home. I didn't had money to pay immediately whenever they are sent. This was affecting their performance. Currently I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to educate my children and ensure that their future bright.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 35,000 on the second transfer to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I am so happy because I know my children will study well without being sent home to collect the school fees. I also bought bed and bedding. Currently I have good bedding and whenever I have a visitor hey sleep so comfortable. The rest of the money I bought a wire, I am planning to fence my farm to prevent neighbor's cows from destroying my crops.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was really happy as we had been anticipating. I noticed around 11 am as I was in school. I had to inform my husband who had already gotten from the neighbors that it was already in.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggst difference in my daily life is the complete change of my household interior look. I obtained a good furniture which made my new house looks great.

Obtained furniture worth 45k, 8K to pay school fees for my two children (college & sec), Had already constructed a house when I received the money and had to only source furniture

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition is to be a successful business woman in future, I'm currently a teacher by profession nearing retirement next year. After retirement I want to open a boutique town and use the income to educate my children. After loans and tax deduction I have a salary of 17,000 which is not enough to provide the basic needs for my family. When I receive this money I will pay for school fees.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day starts at 5:30 in the morning as I prepare for school. I am a teacher by profession and teach at a near by school. I spend most of my day at school unless it's on weekends and on holidays. I am mostly happy during the day when in school as I teach because I get to impact positively on our next generation.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship in life has been insufficient capital for school fees. I have two children in school, one at the university while the other one in secondary, my first born has finished college but we had taken a loan to educate him, he hasn't been successful enough to get a job and my worry the two might be forced to drop out of school.
