How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it would have been had I not received the transfer because I now have a place to call my own. The transfer I received from GiveDirectly not only enabled me to own a piece of land but to also build a decent and spacious house for my family. Also, my children were able to study last year without being sent back home. Due to this, there was an improvement in their performance.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well by ensuring that everyone in our village has been enrolled and I do not see anything that they did not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
When I received my second transfer, I spent a good amount to build for myself a house in the piece of land that I bought using my first transfer. I settled on this since I felt the need to live in a place a little far from home. Also, I paid school fees for My children since I did not want them to be sent back home and stay behind in the education. On the remaining amount, I bought enough food to last my family for some time.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have developed a great sense of hope and motivation in life. I now own a piece of land which I am planning to build and cultivate. I am happy that soon I will not be burdening my parents again.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was still sleeping at a around 3.00 am when was woken up by a message ring tone on my phone, on checking it, it was an Mpesa message. I was so overwhelmed and excited on seeing the receipt of the Give Directly's money. I immediately woke my daughter up to share the good news with her. We were not able to hide our joy as we danced all the way till dawn.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used the transfer to buy a piece of land. I am a single mother with three children, since I am not married and I solely depend on low paying casual work which is very unreliable, I am forced to stay with my parents in the same compound. I also depend on their land for farm produce. The Give Directly's money has enabled me to purchase a piece of land where I am planning to build a house using the second transfers and move in.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will have an opportunity of buying a piece of land which has been my priority since I seperated with my husband.Currently I live in my parent's land .Having my own piece of land will help me grow crops to feed and educate my children.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I wake up early everyday hoping to get somewhere I can get some money.I am a casual labourer and sometimes its hard to get a place to work. What makes me happy is waking up healthy and strong. Most of the time I go to a forest in the nearby county of Narok to fetch firewood. This firewood is usually for sale where I mainly target teachers in the village. This work needs a lot of energy since I carry the firewood on my back. When I am healthy and strong I am able to do this work very well and get some money to feed my children.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Seperating with my husband is the biggest hardship I have faced in my life. When my husband married a second wife he neglected me and my children.I had no option but to go back home to my parents. Its been seven years now and I have to struggle feeding my seven children.Starting over again as a single mother has not been easy since I depend on casual labour. The income I get is not enough to support them. One child dropped out of secondary school last year due to lack of school fees.I am still pressing on and I know God will make a way.
