How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Over the past three years, my financial resources have been allocated to cover my medication expenses. In the next year, my goal is to shift my focus towards farming. By engaging in agricultural activities, I aim to cultivate crops to raise at least four bags of maize. This harvest will provide sustenance for the next 12 months since I stay alone. With optimism and determination, I aspire to achieve self-sufficiency through farming. It will enable me to secure a source of nourishment and stability for the future.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my view, GiveDirectly excels in providing support to the most vulnerable individuals within society. The officers of GiveDirectly demonstrate professionalism by treating recipients with utmost respect and refraining from soliciting bribes. They are honest and show commitment to non-discrimination as they extend assistance to individuals regardless of their social standing. Personally, the cash transfer I received from GiveDirectly enabled me to cover a portion of my medical expenses, alleviating my financial burdens. It is worth noting that GiveDirectly encompasses a wide range of support and displays excellence in its operations.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In the face of a challenging battle with a chronic illness, the transfers for the past four months have helped me to meet my medical expenses. Since 2021, I have been grappling with a debilitating condition, making it hard to manage the financial burdens I had to face. However, I am relieved to share that there has been hope as I witness signs of improvement. Initially hindered by esophageal cancer, I struggled to eat. I am grateful for the assistance provided by GiveDirectly. The financial support has lightened the load and enabled me to access the necessary medical care. I express my gratitude to GiveDirectly for their invaluable aid during this challenging period.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal for the coming year and beyond is to embark on a journey into tomato and vegetable farming for commercial purposes. Battling illness for some time now has limited my ability to engage in strenuous activities, making the cultivation of vegetables and tomatoes the only viable option for me. With a budget of approximately $21 allocated for acquiring seeds, I am fortunate to have the support of my neighbors who have offered their assistance without charge for the labor involved. As for the $21 required, I will use a portion of my one-month transfer for next year.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I am grateful to GiveDirectly for deeming it right to support me financially. To date, I have never received any form of free financial support from anyone other than GiveDirectly. The organization's commitment to maintaining transparency throughout the enrollment process is commendable. Additionally, their practice of conducting follow-up surveys to check on our progress and well-being is not only reassuring but also serves as a source of encouragement, motivating us to lead happier lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After hearing an update about the upcoming rainfall in the latest news, I made the choice to invest my most recent cash transfer in agriculture. I utilized the $29 I received from GiveDirectly and added $11 from my merry-go-round group's savings to hire a tractor for $40 for ploughing purposes. I planted maize and beans for my own consumption, and if the harvest turns out to be promising, I plan to sell a portion of the crops to generate funds for my daily expenses. I extend my gratitude to GiveDirectly for their timely financial assistance that has given me hope for a better tomorrow.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I presently reside with my niece, who has been paying almost all of my financial needs for treatment. Should my recovery go well, I intend to return home next year to take care of my home and cattle. My going home, in addition, will lessen the financial strain my niece is currently bearing. I will engage with my friends more easily at home, which will help improve my mood. I plan to invest in farming while at home for dietary needs and purchase more animals with my successive transfers (I intend to purchase three ewes for $60).
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
As for me, there is so much support that GiveDirectly has given me that I am at a loss for words. In comparison to my life before the transfers, the transfers have made it simpler for me to acquire medication and lead a decent life. In addition, my dignity is preserved because the transfers are kept confidential.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have had oesophageal cancer since June 2021, which has been financially draining. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for providing the financial assistance that has always made it possible for me to acquire the medical care I need. My most recent transfer was beneficial because it enabled me to buy medications that have improved my health. My family members' financial load has always been alleviated by the transfers, allowing them to focus on the needs of their own families as well.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before I became sick, I invested in poultry and tomatoes, and vegetable farming but I stopped it due to losses caused by poor management. I plan to revive tomato and vegetable farming once I recover to have some income for my survival. I will revive it with $18 which I except to receive from my friends and relatives.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The transfers have immensely helped me in many ways, I have used the transfers to buy a bicycle for fetching water since we are far away from water sources. I have also invested in cattle raising for investment purposes using the money from GiveDirectly. Lastly, it was a good choice for GiveDirectly to ensure that there is confidentiality in the administration of the funds as it provides no room for conflict.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
In 2020, I was diagnosed with esophagus cancer which has made me unwell for six months and thus has been struggling to eat. I have been using a feeding tube to eat during this period. When I felt well, I decided to enjoy what I have been missing; eating food normally. I, therefore, spent $8 of my most recent transfer to buy food and enjoyed it with my family during the Christmas celebrations. I saved the remaining part of the transfer which I intend to use as fare to Nairobi for an endoscopic test scheduled for February.
