Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I went in the bush that cool afternoon to beak wood when I received a message on my phone. In high expectation of my transfer, I hurrily went to check my phone. I discovered it was my money from Givedirectly. I was so happy and begin singing. I later returned home with my wood and rejoiced while cooking that whole day. I was so happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Things were hard on me. I was living in a house that was breaking down on me, but couldn't help myself because I had no money. I had no hope and couldn't barely eat. I had to move into a rented house where I stay. Just within those weeks, my transfer arrived. I immediately went and purchase a bundle of zince to begin building my own house. I am so greatful for the opportunity to have received such money from Givedirectly. Things are much better now. My kid is in school and I am really happy to begin my construction project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my money to purchase zince. I bought one bundle and also paid my child school fees.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My name is Grace Geleplay. My family and I live in my father-in-law house which was built long ago. Because of the age of this building, it is breaking down. The roof is all leaking and the walls are breaking. In addition to that, my husband has problem with one of his arms therefore he is not able to do hard labor. When I receive this cash transfer from GiveDirectly, I intend to build a better house for my family. My husband and I have a kid and we are expecting another child soon so we need a better place to keep our family safe and healthy. I also plan to start a small business to sustain my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the last six months, so many things has happened for my family that has brought me so much joy. Some of these things are: My husband almost lost his life but thankfully he survived. I am pregnant and having complications but I am happy that I am still alive with my unborn child. The most recent thing that has brought me so much joy is the presence of GiveDirectly in my community to offer financial support.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My family and I live in my father-in-law house which was built long ago. Because of the age of this building, it is breaking down. The roof is all leaking and the walls are breaking. We are now in the raining season and every time it is raining, we have to pack our important things in plastic and put buckets and other material under the places that are leaking. My husband has problem with one of his arms therefore he is not able to do hard labor. I am also currently pregnant and can not do some physical things. We find it very hard getting daily bread and taking care of other needs of the family.
