Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6pm while cooking supper when my helper came and informed me that I had received KES55000 from GiveDirectly. I was very happy and grateful to God.

The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is completion of my house which had stalled for the past two years due to shortage of funds especially after I was conned of the construction money.I am grateful to GiveDirectly for making it happen within the shortest time possible.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My age has advanced and I am worried about sustaining myself in the future because a relatively poor widow. Hence, a dramatic decrease in worries will happen upon receipt of this money. Specifically, I will buy a dairy cow using approximately KES 50000. This is a great investment because the cow will give me milk for consumption and sale of any surpluses. Currently, I do not own a cow yet I have the necessary resources for rearing one. Besides, I will use any remaining amount on paying college fees for my youngest son so that he resumes his studies after pausing them for about two years due to lack of fees. Indeed, God is great, thanks a lot GiveDirectly.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In our culture and tradition, I had no option but to demolish our old house following the demise of my husband. Since I had no funds for facilitating the construction of a new one, I was forced to demolish the old house, sell some poles that had been used to build it, then build a new one. Luckily, this strategy proved to be effective because we now have a new house though it's yet to be completed. Currently, I feel much okay and relieved from the spiritual and societal pressures and demands.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We are facing an acute shortage of finances as a family. This has attracted lots of adverse impacts: construction of my new house has stalled, my last-born son has been forced to pause his college studies and I am much worried about the future since I have made no savings. Also, food inadequacy has been a common experience in my household due to the laxity of finances.
