How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next one year and beyond, my plan is to go back to school to complete my college studies. I already saved an amount exceeding $300 in my account and the goats investment that I have back at home shall too help me a great deal in making sure that I achieve my dream of going back to school. I will be able to use all the transfers that I receive from GiveDirectly to pay rent as I use the goats investment to pay school fees and meet other secondary needs that may come by. I am so lucky that courses at Technical institutions have been subsidized by government and this will make it much more affordable for me. On other future plans is to buy a piece of land with my brother who now works as a casual in the city. We live in a small piece of land where we are not sure of when the owners will require us out of it. It is for this reason that we have plans of purchasing our own.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did very well by enrolling every deserving individual without any form of bias whatsoever. By distributing this money over a long period of time, people are able to plan ahead without any doubts in their minds whatsoever. People like us who are partial orphans and who would not have had an opportunity to dream big were very lucky. We now have some dignity because of these transfers. We envision a brighter future for us as a family just like everyone else who may have both parents does. On the other hand, I do not find anything wrong that I think GiveDirectly can do better.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
GiveDirectly has had a profound impact on my life through its monthly transfers. As a partial orphan, I relied on my grandmother's support, and the prospect of affording school fees seemed unattainable. Nevertheless, with the received funds, I managed to save over $300 by taking on casual work in Kilgoris and investing in goats. Initially, I purchased six goats, which have now multiplied to a total of 12, providing me with valuable resources for my financial needs. I am deeply grateful for GiveDirectly's support, which has instilled hope within me and granted me the means to pay for my school fees. As I pursue my education, the monthly transfers will play a vital role in helping me cover my rent expenses.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next one year I want to buy more goats that I will keep and with the ultimate goal of paying my own school fees. I currently have 12 goats all of whom I bought with the help of GiveDirectly transfers and these goats will be sold to help me pay my college fees. I have also made some good harvest as an investment. they easily multiply. I currently have 12 goats which I bought with GiveDirectly transfers. I harvested almost 15 sacks. I look forward to having 30 and this will help me in paying school fees for myself. I plan to go to school this year at around the month of September. I could not imagine in my wildest dreams that I would one day join college and pursue a course of my choice. This I say has been made possible through GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does very well by giving support in equal measure to all its beneficiaries. Had it been that we were given different amounts each month then it would not have been fair. We feel we were treated equally and we are all motivated towards implementing our plans without feeling biased. I do not see anything wrong with how GiveDirectly conducts its operations and I can only advise them to continue doing the good work they are doing.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used $20 to pay casuals who helped in harvesting maize in my maize farm. I then used $4 to buy food for the same casual workers and the remaining amount of $5 was saved in my MPESA awaiting the next spending area. GiveDirectly transfers have been very helpful to me in accomplishing a lot of things and has boosted my savings culture too. I for example saved an entire month's transfer as I did not incur any cost during harvesting of maize. In the last four months, I have been able to save enough money which has seen me increase my herd of goats by two. I made a decision to start keeping goats since this was an investment that gives returns within a very short time and can be very helpful in meeting costs such as payment of school fees. I have plans of starting my college studies soon and the goats that I bought shall be helpful to me in doing this.
