How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Before I was enrolled by the house was almost collapsing and thus made e to always seek shelter from friends daily. Especially during the winter seasons, there was no peace in my homestead because our properties would game damaged because of the heavy downpours. It's now history because after getting my transfers I managed to get a decent house in which we are now comfortable with my family without worrying about the rains and security.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In opinion, GiveDirectly did everything so perfectly by choosing needy households. Everyone's life in my village has now transformed in different ways. We now iron-roofed houses, livestock, sending our children our school and stated businesses well. I do not see sector GD failed us.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying some livestock such as a dairy cow and a goat worthy of KES 26200. These are now the valuable assets that I can readily rely on in case of any financial problem. I also managed to buy some building poles, iron sheets, ropes, and nails. This was purposely for the construction of 16000. This was purposely for the completion of a new house that I had initially construct using the first transfer. The remaining amount of the money, I am using it buying some household items that I was lacking and enough foodstuffs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I am very grateful to GiveDirectly because soon, I will have a decent house and at least get access to a good shelter. For many years, I have tried to build a decent house but my plan had always been unfruitful. My house had collapsed many years ago and the best option has been living in a temporary hut. With the coming of GiveDirectly, I am now in the process of building a new iron-roofed house. Truly, I feel that this is the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I remember seeing a notification on my phone early that morning. On checking the contents, I realized that it was a message from GiveDirectly, which indicated that I had received my transfer. I felt happy since I knew that the money was going to help me build a house to access better shelter like my fellow villagers.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent a large portion of my transfer on purchasing building materials which include 18 pieces of iron sheets, building poles and nails in order to build a new house. The house that has been my shelter for a very long time collapsed. After the incident, I had no option but to start living in a temporary hut. The desire to upgrade to a permanent house grew stronger but due to the financial crisis, this dream never seemed to be valid. I thank GiveDirectly for the gift of a home that came on time. In addition to this, I also spent a portion of the transfer to buy adequate foodstuffs which were also a challenge to me. We hardly enjoyed good meals in the past but through this transfer, providing for my family daily has not been difficult. I finally set aside the remaining amount of money to buy a cow that I will be keeping in my homestead.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
In April, My house collapsed as a result of the long rain we experienced. Since then I have not been able to construct a decent house for myself due to the financial challenge I am facing. Receiving this money means a decent house for my family. I am planning to spend $ 250 USD in building one-roomed, iron roofed house something that will gain me the happiest I have lost for long.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My day begin with working in the farm during the morning hours Up to 11am, where I return back home. It is in the afternoon that I got enough time to rest and share lunch with my grandchildren. I normally feel happy being around them. Hence, I consider it as my happiest part of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In our culture its a taboo to sleep in the same house with your daughter in-law. I was forced to seek refuge in her house after my house collapsed, I am always worried that I may loose respect in the village. I have wished to construct my own house but I have not accomplished my desire due to inadequate finances. Therefore, I consider lack of adequate financial resources as my biggest hardship.
