How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is better now in many different ways like I feed on a well balanced diet, I sleep in a iron roofed house which doesn't leak and on a new mattress. I managed to accomplish my house that stayed for a very long period of time because I lacked money to finish it. Prior to getting this money, I slept it a grass thatched leaky house which harbored rats that damaged my property, the thatch itself and urinated on me. in addition to that I faced a big challenge of looking for grass which is very scarce and buying is very expensive.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GD has done an amazing job I never imagined could come to reality and for sure it seems I'm leaving in a dream. Just imagine getting money unconditionally and decide on what to use without any restrictions OMG. This initiative of non restriction has enabled me utilize these transfers accordingly to my pressing needs. In my society, beneficiaries have spent these transfers on building houses, hire farm land, purchase livestock and started businesses like small trading and bodaboda therefore there's a lot of development in the community. In my observation, I have not seen anything wrong done by GD.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer on purchasing livestock, Household items, water drams, feeding and saved part for taking care of my sickly spouse.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The significant difference in my daily life is that I am now having peace of mind because I renovated my house and it is now very conducive to stay in. Previously, I used to stay in a grass thatched house which had so many rats that would make a lot of noise at night hence making it uncomfortable.

That minute when I realized that I had received my first cash transfer, I felt excited. I sat down with my spouse and started budgeting on how to spend it.

I spent my first cash transfer worth UGX 1,700,000 for renovating my house. I was able to buy cement, sand, murrum soil, three doors, three windows, paying for labour and feeding the builders during work.
