How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With the first transfer that I received I was able to build a house for my family. This is something that I had always dreamed of, but I had no way of implementing it. GiveDirectly came in and made my dream possible. This was a life changing miracle and I am forever grateful for it.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has come to change our lives completely. They have been so helpful to us by giving us these transfers that we have used to enrich our lives and our families. Ensuring that they give help to the most deserving families in our communities.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
With these transfers that I received, we had already discussed with my spouse about buying a motorbike that we would use to start a bodaboda business. By starting this business, we have a guarantee that our daily basic needs will be met without much strain.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment when I received the transfer I felt so happy. Since I operate motorcycle taxi services I normally leave the house very early. By the time I received the message I was already out working. I could not contain the excitement though from outside people could believe that I was acting normally.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the happiness and pride I feel for having constructed a bigger and better house. Whenever people pass by they get amazed with the kind of the house I have constructed. I am happy and proud we now have enough rooms and my children do not sleep on the ground anymore.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I constructed a house with the first transfer. The previous house was so small yet I have children. I am glad they now have a room of their own for sleeping. They nolonger sleep on the ground since we now have enough space for their bedding.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me build a decent and bigger house for my family. I have 3 children and my current house is small and in a not so good condition. I will build a 3 bed roomed house at a cost of 400 USD. I will then use another 400 USD to buy two oxen and a plough which will help me plough my land during the planting season. This will also serve as a source of income for me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
As a motorcycle taxi rider, morning is the happiest part of my day. I make more money in the morning hours compared to the rest of the day. I depend on this money to feed my family. I wake up as early as 6am and come back home at 4pm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints has been my biggest hardship all along. I have three children to feed and take care of their needs but with what I get as a motorcycle taxi rider is not enough to take care of all the needs. I get between 5-6 USD in a day. This job also comes with some risks. Three years ago I was involved in an accident when I was riding my motorcycle. It took me over 3 months to heal and continue working. My right arm has never been totally well since then.
