How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from the way it would have been had I not received the transfer in that if it was not for the transfers, I would not be owning a cow. I am hopeful that in the future after ot has given birth I will have additional cows, and benefit from the milk too. I also have a better house which I would not be having of it was not for the transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion Give Directly has done a great job by helping the needy. Personally I am so proud for having benefited from the program and most people have been able to improve their lives. Giving unconditional cash is the best move ever. On the other hand, there is no area that Give Directly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought cows for rearing with part of the recent transfer. I feel proud for having bought a cow like the rest of my neighbours because I will not only benefit from milk but I will also have more cows once they have given birth. In addition to that, my house was also at the verge o falling down and I did not feel secure staying in it for fear of it harming us. I, therefore ,bought building materials that I have used to renovate the it. The house is now neat and secure to stay in.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was my helper who broke the news to me early in the morning that GiveDirectly had finally honored their promise to us. I had received my first transfer from them. I felt happy and thanked them for coming through my life, since I was able to acquire living assets like goats which at first seemed impossible to me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am happy that through GiveDirectly, I am now owning goats which I am currently keeping in my homestead. These are assets of great value to me. I am expecting them to reproduce and increase in number. I can readily sell the offspring in case of a financial need. I would not have managed to buy any at my own cost. Owning these goats makes the biggest difference in my daily life.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 20000 of my first transfer on buying seven goats which I am currently keeping in my homestead. These are assets to me which I can rely on in case of a financial need. In addition to this, I also spent the transfer on buying a new mattress and a bed and replaced the old beddings that I have used for years. Apart from this, I am in the process of renovating my house. Its not in a stable condition thus I bought bags of cement, bricks and sand to facilitate this. The remaining amount went to foodstuffs and other basic needs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means my desires of owning a ploughing oxen will come true. I will use 40,000 Kenya shillings to purchase the oxen, which will provide income to assist in my financial needs when I plough other people's farm.I also intend to use 30,000 Kenya shillings to buy a bed and mattress because my current bed is not in a good condition. I am sometimes forced me to sleep on the floor. The remaining amount will assist me in paying school fees for my grandchildren.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I usually do energy draining jobs during the day ,whereby I go far distances looking for charcoal to sell. I always look forward for evening time because this is the time I return from work.I take supper with my family while narrating stories to them. Evening is therefore the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been nursing my leg which has a nerve problem for a long time. I managed to visit different hospitals for medication but the doctors confirmed that I should go for surgery so that I can be well. Since that time I have not managed to go for surgery because as a charcoal vendor the income I get every month is 3000 Kenya shilling which is not enough to cater for the medication. Financial problem is therefore the biggest hardship in my life.
