How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I did not know I could own livestock now. I had a low income from odd jobs in the village because I did not have the qualifications to get a good job in the village. I had to put up with my small income and work hard to make my life better. I had struggled for two years now but there was no big difference in my life until I received my transfer from GD. I was able to start a business and even use part of the transfer to buy livestock such as a cow and a goat. I feel wealthy because I know I can never beg again for financial help when I have my livestock. I can sell to get money to meet my needs.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GD did well in giving transfer in secrecy. Had it been in the open, so many people would have lost their transfers. Everyone receiving their transfers was the best way. There is nothing they could have done better.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying livestock such as cows and goats which I have as an investment for my family. I know when I have any financial crisis, I can sell some to raise money to handle the need. When they will reproduce, I will have a number which is a source of wealth to my family. I also used part of the transfer to boost my cloth business by adding more stock to the business. It is now doing well which is my source of happiness. The rest I used on buying food for my family. We did not have enough in the house at the time I received the transfers.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Today, I no longer use a hoe to cultivate my farm which has always made me complete preparing my farm late. Most of the time, it ended up affecting the harvest in that, I had less every season. This, in turn, affected the food security of my household as the product couldn't last us to the next season. The biggest difference in my life after acquiring a pair of ox is that I have cultivated my farm on time . Secondly, I have been able to hire the pair to four of my neighbors and earned an extra income.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money I was very happy . I got a confirmatory message early in the morning and informed my spouse whom we celebrated together as a family . This is a day , I will never forget because I was certain that the money would bring forth breakthroughs.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent 30000 KES of my first transfer a pair of oxen . I am glad that in this short rainy season, I was able to cultivate my farm on time and also hire these pair to cultivate four of my neighbor's farms which I was able earned an extra source of income . I bought food for my family's consumption . I paid my medical with the remaining amount since I was sick at that time .

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My dream has to have a reliable source of income for my family. Being a housewife, I have wished to start a grocery business in the village in order to supplement my husband's earnings from his job as a cook in a cafeteria. This job earns him 1.8 dollars per day which is not enough to meet all the needs of the family like food and clothing. Receiving this money means realization of my dream in life since l am planning to invest 300 dollars on building a semi-permanent structure and to purchase stock for the business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Morning is the happiest part of my day because waking up healthy and energetic with my family give me joy. Also, it is at this period that I got the chance to share breakfast with my mother in-law before everyone start their day-to-day activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of capital to fulfil my desire of having a reliable source of income for my family has been my biggest hardship in my life. This has forced me to depend on my husband's income which is hardly enough to meet the needs of my family. The realization of the transfer we are about to receive has restored my joy in life since I am planning to spend them wisely.
