Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was early morning and I was at home relaxing after having breakfast when my helper came running to where I was and at the same time heard a beep sound on my phone. She helped me read the message and I was met with the pleasant surprise that I had received KES 55,000. I was overwhelmed with joy and was left speechless because I couldn't believe how lucky I was.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I was sick during the enrollment period but after receiving my transfer, I was able to get proper treatment. I am now in good shape all thanks to GiveDirectly. Because of this, I can easily move around unlike before and I am no longer in so much pain. Because of this, I can proudly say that my life has changed ever since I received my first transfer.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Until a few weeks ago, my family slept in a pathetic condition since our old clothes were our beddings. Because of this, I would always wake up having back pains and on receiving my transfer, I spent KES 5000 on beddings. I bought a mattress and blanket after spending KES 3000 on my medication. In addition, I spent KES 2000 purchasing some grass to use in rethatching my kitchen. Also, I spent KES 5000 on farming by hiring a tractor for land preparation purposes and to buy quality seeds. I spent the remaining amount on clothes, food, and a radio so that I can be using it to listen to the news and get daily updates.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I used to live in Nakuru a place called Kapronda. When my husband got sick we had to sale that land and came to live in our ancestral land. The money we got from the salle of land was used for his treatment and some to construct this house I am living in now. My husband treatment depleted all the money we had. So when I get this transfer I will use to complete this house. My bedroom doesn't have a door and I also need to buy beddings. This will cost around KES 30000. In the next transfer I will buy a cow costing KES 20000.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon. This is the time when I read the Bible and I feel relieved of my stress from the loss of my husband.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is when I lost my husband who was our bread winner. We sold all the livestock we had for his treatment which depleted all our savings. Since then I have not stabilized financially.
