How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer is that I have bought a heifer I usually buy milk and this is very expensive for me. I do small scale farming to earn an income and also depend on my spouse. The money that we get through all this small causal jobs is so small and cannot meet all the basic household items including paying school fees for our children in school. I also had no extra money to saved so that I plan on buying a dairy cow. When I received the second transfer this was the only opportunity for me to buy a heifer. I am so much optimistic that when this cow reproduce I will be in a position to have enough milk for my family. I I will also sell the surplus to earn an income to meet other additional basic needs. I am so happy because this project will enable us cut the daily cost.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor people in the community to build better houses and even pay school fees for children in various schools. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well for me.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend part of the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy sofa set seats. I build a better house with the first and because of that I wanted new seats in the new house. I am so happy now because my living room is so decent. I also bought a dairy cow worth 20000ksh. I used to buy milk daily and this was so expensive for me and I need to cut this cost. Current I no longer buy milk. I save the money which I could have used to buy other household items. The rest of the money I bought food for the family which was also one of the basic needs. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed my living standard. and food doe the famuluv

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received a message notification at around noon that day and I was curious to know who could have sent a message by then. As I went through the notification, I realised that I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly. I could not hold the joy that filled my heart. I thanked GiveDirectly for the financial support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that for the first time in my life, I will be sheltering in my own iron-roofed house, after living in a grass-thatched hut for many years with no hopes of upgrading to a better house. Considering the financial hardships I had undergone, from hand to mouth life, I am now in the process of constructing a new house courtesy of GiveDirectly. I had longed to build but my hopes was slowly fading away since scarce resources could not allow me to realize my goal. I am happy and thankful to GiveDirectly because, for the first time, I will be sheltering in an iron-roofed house.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES25000 of my first transfer to purchase pieces of iron sheets, building poles and timber to enable me to construct a new house and to cater for the labor involved in building a new house. I have been able to construct a new one and I now have two houses happy for these. It had always been my desire day and night to own a decent home but hopes were shattered since I did not have adequate resources to build the house. My greatest happiness is that I now have a new home for my family. In addition to these, I spent the remaining amount to cater for household items, clothing and my daily basic needs such as foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
It means it will help us improve our lifes, we just started living together as couple and there are many things that we have planned to do.one is to complete constructing our house, we have started but we are not done with it the walls and the roof.
What is the happiest part of your day?
In the evening when I have completed my home chores and i am resting. Durring the day I get so busy with the daily house chores. I get water from the nearby river which is about 1kilometer from my house this makes me even more tired.I n the evening I rest and relax with my husband
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is when it was raining heavily here, I did not have a kitchen and we were cooking outside the house so when it rains the cooking place and the wood gets wet therefore we could not light the fire there.Because of this we could sometimes sleep on an empty stomach or borrow cooked food from the neighbor.
