How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has totally changed after receiving my transfer from GiveDirectly. When I look back thirteen or so years ago just after my husband passed away it was very challenging to meet my primary and secondary needs. I was living in an old rusty roof that had holes. This would leak when it rained and it was sad that my children who were still young would be rained on mostly when it rained at night. With the responsibility that I had every single day and an income that could barely support my family, it reached a point in life that I was almost losing hope because my hand-tied with limited resources. I will always be grateful to GiveDirectly for gifting me with a shelter that brightens my family and decent life that we have always dreamt of.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly as a whole was very respectful starting with the staffs . I want to acknowledge the fact that the entire community was involved in the enrollment process not leaving out that the participation to the program was voluntary.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy a solar lamp and now my children can study and do their homework at whatever time they please unlike before when we used traditional system of lighting and affording kerosene on a daily basis was very hard. I bought a steel door , two steel windows . I bought a mattress ,blanket ,music system ,utensil and food for my family's consumption .

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is that I am staying in a decent and more spacious house that is not leaking. I do not have worries of being rained on like before. I am also very proud because people used to laugh at my house but now they are shocked how my life has changed. Thanks to Give Directly for changing my life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer I was very excited.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my transfer on buying the iron sheet, nails and polls that I used to build my new house because the one I had the roof was seriously leaking when it rains and it was also too small. I also bought maize for family consumption.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to renovate my house through cementing and the remaining amount will be spent on paying my dowry.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is when I go to do casual work on a sugarcane farm. This makes me happy as it is my source of livelihood.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that I do not have my own piece of land and this has prevented me from doing farming in order to feed my family.
