How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal has always been to provide educational support to my daughter, who is currently in 7th grade. I see great potential in her and have high hopes that she will achieve excellent grades. As we enter the next phase of the year, my primary focus will be to save $20 per month towards her school fees. This will alleviate my financial burden and lessen the struggles I have faced in the past. Despite facing consistent challenges, particularly due to financial constraints, I refuse to give up on ensuring her education remains a priority. I am determined to utilize the transfers I receive to support her educational journey and provide her with the opportunities she deserves.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
One of the best approaches that GiveDirectly has implemented is providing equal transfers to everyone in its program. It has significantly contributed to promoting peace within families and communities. Whenever we receive our transfers simultaneously, it fosters a sense of harmony and tranquility among us. In addition, GiveDirectly has demonstrated a commendable commitment to offering support to all members within the villages where it operates, without any favoritism. It has generated a strong feeling of appreciation and honor within the community. The monthly transfer system has also greatly facilitated effective planning and financial management to its recipients. So far, I have not witnessed what GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have a mother who has been suffering from an illness and has required frequent hospitalization. In addition, my daughter, Purity is enrolled in Junior Secondary School. To support them, I set aside $ 18 from my monthly transfers for my mother's medical expenses, while the remaining funds went into paying my daughter's school fees. Although my mother's health has not fully recovered, I am grateful that she has regained some strength. I am hopeful that in the coming months, we will witness further positive improvements in her life. I am pleased to report that my daughter is performing well in school. Without the monthly transfers, I would have faced significant challenges to support my mother and daughter. The assistance from GiveDirectly has been invaluable in ensuring our well-being, and I am sincerely grateful for their support.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next year and beyond, my primary goal is to provide unwavering support for my child's education. Currently navigating financial challenges, I am determined to utilize any income or transfers I receive towards ensuring that my daughter not only transitions smoothly into her junior secondary level but also thrives academically. Her education has been faced with consistent challenges due to financial constraints, but my commitment is to make it a priority, channeling the transfers that I will be receiving to secure her educational journey.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing a fantastic job helping people, especially those who really need it in the community. This support has brought peace to many homes, which is something new for us. I think everything is going well, and there's nothing more that needs to be done.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the longest time, my husband and I struggled to secure a reliable source of income, relying on sporadic jobs and the modest earnings from our farm. The financial strain made it difficult to meet the basic needs of our family, from putting food on the table to covering our children's school fees. Though, the financial assistance we receive from GiveDirectly had been a game-changer, with the most recent transfer proving particularly impactful as we used the entire amount of $29.50 to buy maize, ensuring a stable and nutritious food supply for our family. The relief and gratitude my husband and I felt were immeasurable, as GiveDirectly significantly alleviated the financial burden we had been carrying for so long.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am glad I am expecting a baby in the month of September. Therefore, as I continue to receive my transfers, I hope to build up my savings and spend them to support my children. As they grow, I will have fewer struggles. In addition to my other sources of income, it will be in handy in helping me to meet my children's nutritional, medical, and educational needs. That will enable me to experience a positive change in my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly, in my perspective, has been incredibly supportive to the less fortunate people in our community. We were able to revisit our previous ambitions thanks to the financial assistance we received. As a result, many of us have succeeded in doing things we could not do before. It provides the same amount to people living in the same residence. As a result, the families have remained integrated. There is nothing GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the past four months, we had been experiencing famine coupled with a hike in food prices. Occasionally, we could struggle to obtain food because we do not have a reliable source of income. When I received my transfer, I prioritized using them to buy food for my family. The cash was helpful in terms of obtaining food as well as supporting our children's education. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for its financial support.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My family consists of five children, the eldest of whom will begin junior high school next year. As a result, I've begun looking for ways to raise funds and begin purchasing a few school items that he will required during the opening. The reason for this, is that I rely on small-scale farming and occasionally do casual jobs like slashing for very little pay. I spend the little money I get on buying food for my family, which is insufficient. So, if I don't start looking for ways to save for his education early enough, I won't be able to enroll him in school due to lack of funds. Because he is my eldest son, I want him to have the best education possible so that one day he can be successful in life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GD did a good job by giving transfers to both husband and wife. This has greatly improved family communication and reduced family conflict. Furthermore, it has empowered women to start small businesses that help them support their spouses during these difficult economic times. Furthermore, there are many communal activities, such as a merry go round, that have promoted various developments in the village.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Lately, life has been too difficult; in fact, every shopkeeper in my village sells their goods as they wish. Every day, the prices of goods rise, and we sometimes wonder if this also affects people in cities. Our main meals included ugali, so when I received my recent transfer, I spent the entire kes 2950 on it for family consumption. I considered buying because I had heard in the market that prices would skyrocket in the coming days. As a result, my decision has greatly aided me because there are times when we only prepare porridge for breakfast and lunch then look for a good evening meal.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My daughter sat for her grade six national exams and now waits to join junior secondary early next year. I plan to save my income from the sale of my farm produce. I will add the income to my husband's contribution to have at least $80.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The idea of giving everyone in the household and the entire village money was good. The transfers have enabled us to invest in education and build houses. We also feel proud about the improved living standards that the transfers have enabled us to have.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Due to the prolonged droughts, I did not have a good harvest making us lack food and even go to bed sometimes without food. The transfer came when making ends meet for me was a huge struggle due to reduced income from casual labor which I only earn $2 per working day. I used the transfer to buy maize worth $30 to cushion us against hunger and to keep some for future consumption.
