How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I can say that the difference in my life is that I was able to get a new house which probably I could not have had if I could not have received the cash transfers. The kind of finishing I did on the house was also quite expensive and it consumed most of the money I had by then. All these things were made possible courtesy of the transfers from Give Directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The transfers brought a lot of changes in peoples lives. There are those who never had houses but eventually, they managed to build new houses courtesy of the transfers they got from Give Directly. There are those who never had money to pay the dowry for their wives but were eventually able to do so because of the money they got from the organization.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the second transfer to build a new house which I really so much because I initially used to live in a small dilapidated house. I managed to do some completion on the entire house by cementing both the interior and exterior sections of the three-bedroomed house. There is one cow which I still own to date that I bought at a cost of approximately 18000 KES.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference is that I currently live in a plastered house with a tiled floor something that I had not dreamt of before. My children are happy and you can tell that there is joy in the house as compared to before when the house was always gloomy and joy was like gold in that house a rare commodity. Thank you GiveDirectly for the impact in our lives.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I wish GiveDirectly was there to see the expression on my face. I was filled with joy and smiles were order of my day because I knew my living standards were going to change from that moment henceforth.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Initially, we used to live in a grass thatched house with the walls almost falling down due to the heavy rains. This situation was worrying thinking that the house might fall down anytime and even cause injuries in case people were inside. The moment I received my transfers I did not even waste another day I rushed to the nearby town and bought building materials two weeks later we were in a brand new, spacious and brick wall house. We felt safe in the house and the worries were no more.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a lot to me since I will be able to build a new pit latrine upon receiving first transfer. I will also be able to buy cows that I would be able to rear and have them reproduce to expand their numbers and milk them for family use.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is usually in the morning as I prepare to go to the farm. Visiting my farm is such a joy since it is the source of my livelihood.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced was when our village was visited by public health officers and my homestead was found without a pit latrine and I was fined yet I had no money to pay, this forced me to sell the maize grains that I had in store for food to pay for the fine.
