How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Before GiveDiretly visited us, I was already thinking of settling down in marriage. The only problem was that I was scared of not being able to look after my wife and family well since I did not have a reliable source of income. I only depended on casual and menial jobs for survival. When I started receiving these transfers, my confidence in starting a family grew. The assurance of the monthly transfers from GiveDirectly has complemented what I earn from casual jobs and this has allowed me to be in a position to provide for them. I am glad that I am now married to beautiful wife and hopefully, soon, My family will grow.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My additional goal is to build a retail shop just at the edge of our farm. This will not only serve as a reminder of the good deeds that GiveDirectly did to us but also as a source of income for me. I am currently saving towards this goal.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have a good credit score in my local retail shop. Whenever I lack some basic items in my home, I would go to the shop and take these items on credit with a promise of paying every end month whenever I receive the transfers from GiveDirectly. The fact that I have never failed to pay these items means I am in good books with them and whenever I need anything from them, I will simply walk in. This was not the case before since one was never sure of getting a casual job in order to pay for the goods taken on credit.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
My expectation in the next few months is to have opened and had a running retail business. This will be a source of income to my family and also serve the people around as the nearest shopping center is quite a distance from the village. The income from this business will build me financially and put me in a position to better look after my family.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
My life is currently different in that during dry seasons, we usually have very little or no source of income because the sun destroys the crops in our farms. And since we wholly depend on the farms for our daily upkeep, it got to a stage where there was very little proceeds from the farm. This time round, we did not feel too much effect of that because of the transfers from Give Directly. We still could afford to buy the basic necessities with the transfers.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal is to build a small kiosk and start a small retail shop business. I have noticed that the closest shop in my village is quite a distance and I want to take advantage of the untapped market. This will be an additional source of income for me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now living in my own house that I built using the transfers from Give Directly. When we started receiving the transfer, I started saving some amount of money every month. The savings is what I was able to use to build my house. When my house was ready, then I got married. According to our culture, I was not able to marry if I do not have my own house. I thank GD for helping get to the next stage of life.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
My expectation in life is to have settled in life and planting more tea bushes as away of investing for my family. Tea is a major income earner in our area and will help me be financially stable and live a more comfortable life.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
Four months ago, I was single and life was much easier since I only had my own needs. At the moment, life is more challenging since I now have a family to feed and give them more the best. I am not quite certain that I will make it since the transfers got me covered.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
In the next four months, I am planning to plant tea crops in order to help me get money as soon as they mature. The transfers will help me buy seedlings and also pay for labor costs. The two acres, which am planning to plant will mature four years later and will enable me to pay my daughters school fees as soon as she starts schooling.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life is that I improved my barber shop and also started a boutique using the transfers. From the proceeds, I have been able to meet the needs of my family as well as my own needs. Through the profits from this business I have been able to build a permanent two bedroomed house which even motivated me further to start a family, I recently got married and I am happier since its an achievement for me.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next 6 months, my family will be well established and my daughter who is only four months old will have turned one. This for me means more responsibilities and on the other hand, fewer expenses since I believe by then with my daughter being older she will be much healthier. In the last 6 months, she is been and out of hospitals due to low immunity due to her tender age.
