How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to start a business of collecting and selling milk within my village after analyzing the market since most people acquired livestock with their transfers hence can supply to different hotels within our town. This will enable me to assist my husband to settle other household bills since he doesn't have a stable income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, most households appreciated all the work done by Givedirectly in all stages of enrollment and also the fact that they ensured equality to everyone. On the other hand, I have never heard anyone complain of dissatisfaction.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
On receiving the second transfer, I constructed a two-roomed house at a cost of Kshs.18,000.For the longest time with my family of five, we had been living in a single room that served as a kitchen and also a bedroom which compromised our privacy as parents. I am happy that we are currently enjoying the spacious newly constructed house. I also spent Kshs.7,000 in purchasing two sheep since my husband is planning on building a pen for keeping the sheep and eventually starting a business of selling sheep so that we can cater for school fees for our children. In addition, I bought a heifer worth Kshs.25,000 which will calf in four months which means more milk for consumption and also for sale. With the remaining amount bought food for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 10 am when I received my transfer, I was at home relaxing after I was done with my house chores when I heard my phone ringing, it never crossed my mind that it was the promised transfer, I picked my phone to check and that was when realized that I had received a huge amount of money from the organization, I was overwhelmed with joy, I immediately called my husband to inform the good news that we had received. I started planning on how I would spend the money, I knew that my plans would be realized because I already had the money at hand.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I aspire to see my children excel in academics, on making sure that the vision would be realized I decided to invest in dairy farming, I am hopeful that by then I will be having more than one cow, my life is also different because my children are going to have enough milk for their consumption thus boosting the health. lastly, my visitors can have a comfortable place to sit and relax on because I bought seats.GiveDirectly has brought so much joy and happiness in our lives, the future looks bright for us.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a consistent farmer and my husband is a local businessman in the village, we are blessed with three children. For a long time now I have been buying milk for our daily consumption, this is very expensive for us due to unreliable sources of income, therefore I decided to use my first transfer in buying a dairy cow worth KES28,000. I also bought seats worth KES 9000, then lastly I bought foodstuffs with the remaining part of the transfer. I am humbled and happy that I was able to accomplish so much within a short period, my children are happy now that we own a dairy cow. The support that I got from GiveDirectly lifted my life to a higher level and I am thankful for it, looking forward to receiving the second transfer so that I can build a decent house with it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that our wealth shall significantly improve. I plan to purchase some livestock that will be sold in the future to educate my children. Additionally, I will utilize some of the money in expanding my business of livestock trade. Subsequently, we shall attain more income for expanding my wealth.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the afternoon when my child is back from school. She helps me look after the cattle and my other young children as I attend to other chores. At this time I also get to rest after a hard days farming activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My biggest hardship is when the farm I had leased to do farming was adversely affected by drought and maize diseases. I had planted maize for commercial services three years ago. Unfortunately, I made no profits since what we harvested from the farm was just enough to break-even for the project. I lost interest in farming, something that had been my passion for some time.
