How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
There is a difference in my life because for one my husband used a portion of this amount to pay dowry. He later passed on after the second transfers were sent, so had it been that he had not paid the dowry, traditionally I would not have been allowed to bury him because he could not be recognized as my legally married husband.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The organization does so well by supporting the poor in the society by giving them unconditional cash transfers which they then use to take care of their most urgent needs. For instance, for me I built this new house where I currently live with my family. Truth be told, were it not for this money, I do not think I would have managed to build this house because I do not have the financial strength to afford one of this kind.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used the money to buy new building materials which I used to erect a new large structure where I currently live with my family. I initially used to live in a small grass thatched house which could barely accommodate me with my family but today i am so glad that I have this new beautiful house covered with some strong iron roof on the top. In addition to that, I also bought a new solar powered panel that has been helping me a lot in illumination so I can now have bright nights and even charge my phones at the comfort of my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy materials for my tailoring business and also build a bigger house than the one we currently stay in.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I embark on my tailoring business. This makes me happy as it suppliments the cash that I get from casual labor.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that my husband works as a security officer at night and his salary is always delayed. This at times forces us to incur so many debts as a family.
