How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed in that, I sleep in an iron roofed house. In the past, I found it costly to renovate the thatched house because the that thatch material is scarce.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GiveDirectly has done well by alleviating poverty from my family. On the other hand, there is completely nothing bad that it has done.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer for completing the construction of my iron roofed house and buying a cow.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The significant difference so far is that I have finally constructed a permanent house after four years of toiling to save money. Before receiving this transfer, I had many unfulfilled plans yet I did not have enough money. However, I am grareful that the first cash transfer has fulfilled one demand.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the cash transfer around 22:00hrs that day. I was extremely happy that I was one of the lucky recipients.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to purchase bricks worth UGX 900000 and iron sheets worth UGX 370000 and timber worth UGX 170000 and cement worth UGX 60000. I paid the builders UGX 200000. The balance was spent on food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house. In my locality, the kind of grass that can thatch a house is no more. One has to travel some reasonable distance to find grass. The distance and transport cost involved just make it very expensive to maintain a grass thatched house. I am hopping for the better in this programme.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the noon time when I return home from my normal morning duties. My wife receives me well.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is poverty. I have not been able to complete the payment of bride price to my parents-in-law because of my situation. They have called me several times asking for dowary but I have always let them down. I am not settled. Some times I am worried that may be they(my parents-in-law) might at some point in time come and take a way their daughter from me. I don't want to lose her because I have seen how good she is to me.
