Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Before GiveDirectly came to my village, I had no money to pay for my son's school fees in order for him to join college. Since I have been able to do so now, I feel like am fulfilling my role as a parent to educate him to be a better person in the future. This so far is the biggest difference the transfer has brought into my daily life as I am always happy.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I never imagined of receiving such an amount of money and on receiving the notification, the sorrows that had engulfed me were immediately replaced with a smile and happiness in my heart. I felt peace now that GiveDirectly had come to comfort me after a long struggle to raise my children as a widow.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
My ambition has been to see my children achieve their goals in their education but due to financial constraints, I saw myself failing them as they were performing well but I had no money to advance their education further as I didn't have a stable source of income enough to help them. On receiving my first transfer, I paid school fees for my son who will be joining teachers training college and my other son who will be joining high school tomorrow. I used the remaining amount to purchase a pair of oxen to facilitate cultivation for maximum utilization of my farm since it was underutilized due to inadequate farming resources. I will also be hiring to my neighbours at a fee, which means I will be able to earn an income through them. I also purchased two goats to keep as assets and which I will use as a source income in times of need by selling them.
