Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means diversification of my households sources of income. Relying on my husbands casual jobs in town has proven futile because he only earns KES 500 a day and with the rise in the cost of living, this is no longer sustainable. I am planning to use KES 30,000 from the transfers to start a grocery businesss in the village. I will later use KES 20,000 to enrol for a hairdressing course in the nearest vocational institution.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Putting a meal on the table has been a nightmare. Whenever I get a meal, I feel happy and thank God for the gift.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The leaking roof of my grass-thatched house has made it impossible to sleep inside with my baby. Moreover, I sleep on the floor and with the outbreak of ants in the village, this makes my nights miserable and at times I am forced to sleep in my grandmother's house.
