How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better kitchen. I had a grass thatched house which was leaking from inside. During the rainy season it was so hectic because one could not be able to even lit a fire. I own a small grocery business at the market. The amount of money that I get through this is so small. I was not in a position to save some money to build a better kitchen. The grass thatched house was almost falling apart because it was old. When I received the second transfer I was so happy because I knew I would be able to bring a change to my house. Secondly I bought household items, like kitchen table, utensils and cups. My children are so happy because the can now spend time with me at the kitchen while I am cooking supper. Before I could not allow them because the condition was so bad. GiveDirectly has change our living standard and I am so grateful.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the village to build better houses and to pay school fees for their children. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better kitchen.I had a small grass thatched house which was leaking. During the rainy season it was so hectic because it was not easy to lit a fire.Currently I have a decent house as I no longer get stress up. I also used part of the money to buy household items which I never own before. The remaining amount of money I used it to buy Sofa set seats. Currently I am so happy because whenever I have visitors I do not shy to welcome them. Finally I bought food and clothes for my children.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was at 1pm when I was taking lunch and someone called me and we talked. After the call I saw a message and It was the transfer message from GiveDirectly and I was very happy. I told everyone at home and they were all very happy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The heifer that I bought when it calves, will give me milk and I can sell surplus milk to my neighbours and this way I can make more income. I am also glad that I have enough utensils and I am not ashamed of welcoming visitors to my house unlike before when I used to borrow from neighbours.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I bought a heifer and bought my children clothes. I also bought house utensils as I did not have enough and whenever I had visitors, I had to borrow.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a lot to me. I have been operating a small business that is hardly enough to feed my family. I plan to use the money to expand my business and buy some livestock that will bring a complete change in my life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the midday and more so when we have enough family to sustain our family. It gives me so much joy to see my children happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced in my life is the death of my husband. He left us at an early age when we had just started our marriage life. Life was hard for us but I consoled myself. Life became harder when I lost my biological parent who was also taking care of my younger siblings. Being the first born I had to take all the burden of raising my siblings. I am not yet there but I am happy that I have been able to be there for them in times of need.
