How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it was in that, I live in a spacious house. I was able to build a house after Give Directly came and boosted my income. I also have bulls that I use in ploughing my farm which has reduced my expenses since I do not have to pay for labour and this has helped me in ploughing a large area of land hence getting more yields which was a limitation before due to the low income that I could get.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing a good job. The idea of giving out unconditional transfer has enabled many families to achieve their goals. Most families have been able to do big projects like building houses. This has, in turn, improved our lives and health as a whole.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my transfer on purchasing three bulls. Previously, I had only one that could not manage to do the plough by itself, I had to pay for labour during the planting season which was expensive. I am glad that I was able to buy other bulls because I do not have to spend money in order to get my farm tilled but Instead use the ones that I bought to do the work. I also bought three sheep which I believe will multiply and help me in especially when an emergency arises. I added more seats and other household items such as a table and solar lantern. My house is now fully furnished and well lit. Apart from that, I also invested in sugar cane farming and rice too which does well in this area. I know that if they do well I will get good money which I will use in taking care of my needs and goals.
