Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
In the next four months, I plan to use the transfers to boost my retail shop business by adding more stock. I plan to boost the business son a monthly basis so that it may be stable enough to sustain my family needs long after the transfers are gone. I would not want to go back to the struggles I used to have before the transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
Before the transfers, I used to live in a grass-thatched house with my family. The condition was not good and I used to do repairs especially on the roof on a monthly basis. Since I did not have any source of income, I was not able to build a new one. I was almost resolving to sell my only cow to get money for buying building materials. Before I could make the move, I started receiving the transfers from GD. The first ones, I dedicated to building a new house by using the transfers to buy building materials such as iron sheets, timber which I have now used to put up a new iron-roofed house. Without the transfers, I really don't know if I would have managed to have a new house by now.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, after my business has been stable, I plan to use the transfers to buy new household items such as furniture, cupboard which I do not have by now. The seats I moved with into the new house from the previous one are worn out and I would like to have new ones which match the status of the new house. My utensils too and other items are not well kept because I do not have a good storage area. This is why I want to buy a cupboard. This will also create more space in the house because many of the small items are kept in one place unlike now.

The biggest difference in my daily life is that l managed to improve the business of selling fuel for the motorcyclists in the near by center and this has earned me more money as compared the casual jobs that I used do, in that I am able to support my parents in providing me with the basic needs. They are very happy and feel relived by getting my support. The business has also supported motorcyclists since no longer t ride a long distance in search of fuel.

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
The biggest achievement of my life ever since I started receiving transfers from Give Directly is that I managed to build an iron-roofed house. Initially, I had a grass-roofed house that used to leak during the rainy season. I had no hopes of building one soon despite being depressed with the condition of the house I had previously. I thank Give Directly for their help, no one would have built me one, not even my relatives would have thought of helping me. May God bless them and give them more
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My additional goal in the next four months is to start selling second-hand clothes. Most people in this area are not rich therefore they can't afford shopping in a boutique and other high-end stores. I can as well get them quality clothes similar to the ones in the boutiques. Since they can't also walk naked I think looking for decent camera copy clothes will attract more customers. I believe this will be able to sustain me for a while. If all goes well I with then think of how I will fully invest in this business

How is your life currently different from how it was four months ago?
The fact that I get monthly income has changed my life. Before the transfers, I used to depend on casual work which in most cases was paid daily if you had worked. I used to really struggle to make ends meet because the income was too little. When I started receiving these transfers, I have been able to budget well with what I get and makes me very happy because I am not a beggar anymore.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My new goal is to start a business. The business will be my source of income since casual work is inconsistent. The income I get from casual work is too little to meet my needs hence I want to start a business to boost my income and sustain my family needs.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my life since I started receiving this transfer is that I was able to buy iron sheets. I have been struggling for the last two years to raise money to buy them but it has not been possible. I have been living in a grass thatched house and I have always tried going for casual work to raise money to buy building materials but all in vain. Income from casual work was not enough to even feed us. When I started receiving these transfers, I started buying iron sheets bit by bit and am glad, in the next two months, I will finally be having the house I have been looking forward to.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I would want to complete constructing my new house. I still want to save to buy cement and sand which I plan to use in plastering my new house. This will make it look nice, presentable and durable. I would like to build once and for all so that I focus on other things especially educating my children.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is lack of money for treatment.I got involved in motorcycle accident and could not raise money for proper medication. This draggged my recovery to six months because I was just relying on people of good will for medication.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I return from casual jobs.Am always tired after work but when I get home,I carry my little baby and the smiles on his face when playing with him makes me happy and rejuvenated.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I plan to spend my transfer from GiveDirectly on building an iron roofed house and move out of the current leaking grass thatched house.Later on,I plan to start a cereals business.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
The achievement that am most proud of is the cow that I purchased last year after selling part of cereals that we had grown for subsistance. At 15000 Kshs last year,I hope to take care of it until its value shoots to kshs 30000 then I will resell and buy back two or three new ones when prices will be favourable.
