How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
After spending all the transfers on all the plans that we had we are now focusing on the ongoing projects which we have not completed. We appreciate all the transformation that Givedirectly jas brought into our household.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly did well by giving us lump sum cash we had never received. These transfers enabled everyone in my village change their lives. All the stages of enrollment were adhered to hence I don't have any complaints.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receipt of my second transfer, we had discussed with my husband purchasing timber for consthe truction of a two-bedroom modern house which we had commenced before receiving the transfer. With KES 20,000 we purchased the timber from my neighbor which we have already used and the house is nearing completion. With KES 30,000 we saved towards paying school fees for our children who are in high school once they open school. This will enable them to study without distraction. With the remaining part of the money, we used in buying food for our household members.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 11pm while asleep when I heard an SMS notification on my phone. On checking, I confirmed to have confirmed KES55000 from GiveDirectly. I was very excited and relayed good news to my husband who was equally elated.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving the transfers is purchase of water tank. This is because I had desired to have one for the past two years but couldn't afford. Through the transfers, my kids have also grown healthier and happier because we have food in bulk which we couldn't afford before. We normally rely on maize and beans farming.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES30000 on a 5000 litres water tank which will help in storage of rain water for a longer time. This is because the water sources are quite far and river water is not good for consumption. I also spent KES15000 on latest clothing fashion and the rest on food and two goats.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means Clean water for drinking in my house. For the last 7 years, I have been fetching water from the chepkulon River, the river is far from the homestead, about 5 kilometers. Apart from the distance, the water is not clean for drinking since a lot of people have been affected by many diseases in the area. I plan to purchase a water tank of 10,000 liters worth of KES 70,000. The remaining I will use to build a kitchen since the one I have is old and almost collapsing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
For the last six months, we have been happy as a family, because none of the family has been sick, My husband was employed as a shopkeeper at the nearest center and at the end of the day he comes home with some money which supports feeding the family and caters for school fees.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Food insecurity is the biggest challenge that I currently face. For the last 5 years, the area has experienced very low rainfall resulting in less production of food. I used to harvest 15 bags of maize in an acre plot. Currently, I harvest half a bag in the same acre meaning I do not have enough food to feed the family of 6. We decided also to sell the dairy animals we had to reduce the number because of the drought and lack of feeds.
