Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home relaxing, Suddenly, I heard my phone ringing and vibrating. Upon checking the message I saw a Mpesa notification showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly. It was the best news that I had received in a long time, words cannot explain how happy I was when I received the unconditional transfer. my hope was revived because I knew that I would be able to secure better medical services, I am so happy that GiveDirectly kept its promise.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to undergo surgery to correct my broken leg successfully. I was unable to walk with my leg before due to the injuries that I had sustained. Unfortunately, I was unable to seek specialised treatment due to financial constraints. GiveDirectly transfer was the best thing that had happened in my life because it came at a very crucial time in my life when I needed it more.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was involved in a road accident sometime back, which left me with a broken leg. My life has never been the same ever since that fateful day. Thus when I receive ed my transfer, I opted to seek medical intervention where I underwent surgery where I used KES 40,000. I was unable to seek alternative health care due to financial constraints. . I then used the remaining amount of money on foodstuffs and other basics needs. I am forever grateful for the support that gave me a second opportunity in life.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means food security for my family. I used to do small business selling porridge during market days in the nearby town. Four months ago I was run over by a bicycle and I got a fracture in my right leg. This injury gave me difficulty in walking and I have not been able to do my business like before thus depending on my children to fend for me. So when I get this transfer I will buy a dairy cow. In our culture, we value cows for milk. Iam optimistic that it will give us milk for household use and if in surplus I will sell to generate income. A good dairy is sold at KES 30000.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son got a job in the city and he has been a helping hand during this period of my injury. This has given me joy and happiness since I have not gone to bed hungry and he has been paying for my treatment.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge is my right leg injury. Before the injury, I could do my own business to earn a living however the injury has made me depend on my children who do casual jobs. Their earnings are not sufficient to meet all our basic needs since these casual jobs are not consistent and besides they have their families to take care of.
