How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I had never received the transfer in that I was able to improve my goat rearing by obtaining six more goats. In addition, I now sleeping on comfortable beddings with my children after acquiring modern ones. Furthermore, my children are learning without being sent home due to lack of school fees. Lastly, I am living debts free life after clearing all my debts.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly did well for conducting training before enrolling the eligible households into the program. This has really helped me in utilizing my transfer in appropriate way.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I have wished to improve my goat rearing but I lack the finances to achieve my desire. I spent my transfer to purchase 6 goats at $35 each, this is my future investment for the family. I will sell them when they multiply to educate my children who are still in lower primary. I also purchased 2 beds and 2 mattresses for I and my kids. Previously, I was using the traditional beddings which were not comfortable and my kids were spending their nights on the floor. I bought sufficient food stock with the remaining amount.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer notification early in the morning. To my surprise, I had received my first transfer from GiveDirectly as they had promised us. I felt happy as I thanked them for fulfilling their promise.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Owning the livestock is the biggest difference in my daily life. I had none and I could not have managed to buy any at my own cost. I am happy to have these livestock which are valuable assets that will help me in case of financial need. In addition, they are also a saving for the future of my children's education who are still young. I will sell the offspring to raise school fees to educate my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 34000 of the first transfer on buying livestock which include two cows and five goats. I am keeping these livestock because they are a saving for the future for us who mainly depend on casual jobs for a living. I can readily rely on them in case of a financial need. I also bought pieces of iron sheets for the roofing of an extension of a single room since my house was not spacious enough. I also bought a new bed and a mattress to replace the old beddings I have been using for years.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
"My desire has been to start a food kiosk, but due to financial challenges this desire has never occurred. I am planning to spend 40,000 shillings to purchase all the materials required e.g utensils tables and chairs. I will use 15,000 to pay for the kiosk rent. This will give me enough time to settle and allow my business to pick nicely before starting paying it by myself. The food kiosk is going to generate income to my household, because the profits I will be getting are enough to sustain my basic needs e.g clothes. Apart from kiosk I will use the extra amount to construct a 1 room house for my kids who are currently staying in neighbours house."
What is the happiest part of your day?
"Evening becomes my happiest part of the day. This is because I have enough time to rest, after a long day full of stress. Thinking of how my future is going to be."
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
"Coming from a polygamous family of 15 members and my husband is the only provider has real been a challenge. The salary he earns of 10,000 shillings in a month,is not enough to cater for our all our needs. Lack of a good source of income is the hardest challenged in my life."
