How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have been able to build a new house - something I never thought I could do soon. Watching my children grow has always reminded me that I needed to build a new house. The house that we were living in was too small and as children grow, It is only natural for them to stay in a separate room with their parents. Receiving GiveDirectly transfers enabled me to bring this dream to a reality and we now have a new house where my children can be comfortable in. We are also in a better place to receive visitors without the fear of wondering where we could find them sleep. This has equally made me so happy and proud as a responsible parent.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does so well by sending money directly to the recipients. It was a good feeling knowing that we got all that was meant for us. On the other hand, I do not feel like there is a thing that GiveDirectly does not do well. I just could not get happier with GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer to bring my newly constructed house to its completion. I had used my first transfer to build a new house which did not come to its completion due to shortage of funds. When I got my second transfer I did finishing of my new house and I also bought furniture to be used in the new house. We were living in a small grass thatched house that was getting too uncomfortable for us considering that my children are growing older and it feels so uncomfortable sharing with them the same room. I also used KES 12000 to take my daughter to school who was joining form one this year. My daughter struggled so hard to pass her standard eight exams and I was proud that I was able to take her to school at the right time. I feel so proud as a father.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been desiring to increase the number of livestock and receiving this money mean I will soon be able to add one. I have one cow who is not much productive and therefore I am planning to buy another one and increase milk production for both household consumption and for sell.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. Waking up healthy and seeing a new day makes me jovial and ready to face the day's activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in life is lack of employment. The money I get from my small kiosk is hardly enough to cater for my family's needs. My wish have been to be employed and earn money which I will use as capital and start a bigger business.
