Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home relaxing after taking my dinner. I was awake thinking about the achievements of the day. I remember it was about 8 pm when I received the message notification on my phone. Being illiterate, I went to my helper's house to interpret the message. I felt happy and relieved when I learned it was the transfer from Givedirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest different in my daily life is the I currently own a realible source of income for myself after starting goat keeping. I am positive that I will be able to cater for the education of my grandson through his secondary education something that has restored the peace of mind.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My ambition has been to start goat farming as a reliable source of income for the family. I spent KES 20,000 of my recent transfer to acquire 5goats. This is because goat keeping is a profitable business and less costly to raise compared to cattle. I will be selling them at a profit when they grow up to educate my grandson. In addition, I bought a bed and mattress for KES 21,000. Previously, I was sleeping on the floor with an old mat as bedding which was uncomfortable. Lastly, I supported the education of my grandson by clearing all the fee arrears since he was always spending most of the time at home because of the fee arrears. Currently, he is in form 3 and happy that his education is no longer interrupted.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
The walls of my house are weak and in the verge of collapsing. In addition to this, I do not have a kitchen and I am forced to prepare my Meal in my son's kitchen. I am planning to use KES 40,000 from the transfers to renovate my house and a further KES 30,000 to construct my own kitchen. Doing all this will give me the peace of mind I have always desired.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The right leg pains I always experience has denied me peace of mind for long. However, I feel relieved at night and this has bought joy in my because I always enjoy a nice sleep.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have been suffering from prolonged leg pains and this has denied me peace for long. Walking has been a great challenge and this has affected my productivity in my small farm. During the day, the pain persists and I am forced to survive on some painkillers.
