How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
By the time I received my last transfer, I had a project that had stalled for a long. My building premise was incomplete, I, therefore, prioritized to fast bringing it to an end. As soon as I accomplished that goal, I developed a new goal of starting a new business. I am now raising some money which I shall use to start up a shop. Since I am a teacher, I shall look for someone to manage it. I am hopeful that from it, I shall raise additional income for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, I believe GiveDirectly does well in communicating effectively to its recipients. During the enrollment stage, all of the recipients demonstrated professionalism. It does regular follow up to determine the impact of cash on its recipients. Even the way follow-up is conducted is a true demonstration of professionalism. So far, I cannot fault GiveDirectly because I am satisfied that it does well in the manner it operates.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my entire transfer immediately after receiving it on building my business premise. I started building it about a year ago, but I couldn't finish it because I didn't have enough money. I am relieved that the premise is now complete courtesy of the transfer. Now the biggest task ahead of me is to look for capital to start a business. I have always taught, but having a business will allow me to supplement my family's income.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 10 AM when I was at my daily hustle when my mobile phone started ringing continuously which was not normal. I had to take a pause and check who might have sent the message at such a time of the day. After checking, I didn't believe what I saw, it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirecty, they had finally fulfilled the promises. I was overwhelmed with joy and I remember having to go back home and inform my spouse concerning the great news. It will remain to be a memorable day in my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I was able to boost my businesses and even empowered to start a new one. With the cyber shop business I used to experience lots of challenges since some of the machines like the printers, photocopy machines had worn out and were not of good quality. Therefore day by day I ended up losing customers which was a big loss to me. I even decided to close it down because it was stressing me a lot. I had been yearning to purchase high-quality machines but because they were too costly I couldnt afford them. All I can say I that GiveDirectly came in good time becasue as of now the business has picked so well and on a good day I can make even KES 500 which still feels like a dream to me. On the other hand, the new grocery business is also running so smoothly with good returns which is an additional income to me. My aim is however to save all the profit that I will be getting for my children's education since for now they are still young and by the time they will be joining the school, I will be fully prepared. Also, I will no longer be straining in meeting my family's basic needs as I used to do.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on boosting my business by purchasing pieces of equipment such as a printing machine at KES 20000, the laminations materials which cost KES 5000. The previous ones were not of good quality and I had to substitute them forte modern ones. In addition to that, I bought some bags of cement at KES 20000 which were for the completion of a rental house in the trading center. By the time I will be complete I am glad that I will be getting an additional income monthly. To add to that, I started a new business of selling all sorts of vegetables, fruits, and grains and my spouse wll be operating it since she doesn't have a stable job. With the little amount of money, I bought enough foodstuff for the family

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will complete my project very successfully.I have a project of building a rental house near Mnago wa Dola primary school and it's was stuck because of luck of funds to complete the project.I will spend 60,000 KES to complete the project and I believe if I finish this project, I will be renting this house to my fellow teachers and will be earning monthly rents of 8,000 KES a month. I am planning to buy a fertile land in Mtsara wa tsatsu areas of which I will start agriculture to have food security to my house because our area here in mnagoni , the land is not fertile and drought hqs persisted for many years without raining.
