Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my transfer, I can recall that it was in the evening when I was preparing dinner for my family. My children came rushing towards the kitchen looking happy and excited. Upon asking what was happening, that was when they broke the good news that I had received money from GiveDirectly. This was the best news, I was full of happiness and joy. I then broke the news to my husband who was equally happy and excited. We celebrated the entire evening. I am so happy for the support that gave us an opportunity for us to improve our lives.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life today is that we were able to boost my husband's business. It is the main source of income in our home. Secondly, I managed to purchase a dairy cow to add to the one that had. I had the dream before but I was unable to execute the plan due to financial constraints. I am forever indebted for the aid that I got from GiveDirectly which lifted my life tremendously.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband and I had planned on how we would spend our transfer. Therefore upon receiving our initial transfer, my husband and I agreed to spend our funds on boosting his business where we used KES 25,000. We then purchased a dairy cow worth KES 20,000 to add to the ones that we had to improve milk production for our daily consumption. I depend on selling eggs and vegetables to earn an income and my husband is into the maize business. At the moment we are having two children who are still under our care. I was unable to accomplish all of these before due to financial constraints but I am glad and relieved for the great milestones that I have achieved.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We are growing old with my husband and we are struggling with old age healnes. I cannot perform most of household chores because of an injury on my left foot that I got five years ago. We are happy that we are getting Give Directly money so that it will help us in medication. We spend about KES 10,000 in every three months for medication. This is too high given that we cannot work in farm work anymore.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Our cow culved in February this year and it was a relieve to us since we depend on milk so much. It was a joyful moment to us. We sell part of the milk to help us finance our family while we consume the remaining.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We cannot go for casual jobs anymore to support ourselves, therefore we depend more on our children yet they are also struggling with unemployment. Old age healnes is a challenge to us since it does not allow us to work anymore.
