Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I learned I had received my first transfer at around 7 in the morning. My heart was filled with joy because at first, I thought it was a scam during the enrollment period. I finally knew my poor condition shall change courtesy of GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I am now hopeful and happier because I now own some goats in my homestead. I opted in buying them because they reproduce twice a year and this assures me that they will multiply in a short period of time. My wish is when they increase in number, I will exchange them for a dairy cow. These will help me to meet my future financial needs without straining.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying some building materials such as bricks, some bags of cement, iron sheets, and nails. This was for the construction of a new house since the previous one was almost collapsing. I then used KES 7000 to pay the laborer as his labor charge. In addition to that, I bought three goats as my dependable assets. I settled in purchasing them because they reproduce twice a year and mature faster. I am using the remaining amount of money, I am using it in buying some enough foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means changing my life for the better since I am planning to do long term investment project. My first plan is to buy 4 indigenous dairy cows at an estimated cost of $120 each using my first transfer. These will multiply with time and help me in meeting my future needs. On the other hand, I intend to repair my house using $200 and the remaining amount will act as business capital for my daughter's dressmaking job.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My morning and afternoon hours are spent in the bush looking after my son's cows something that makes my day look busy and tiresome. It is only in the evening when I find myself having more time to relax and take my meal comfortably and this gives me the feeling of happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a dependable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced. Currently, I depend on my daughter whose dressmaking job is not reliable since she lacks materials. To supplement her little earnings I sometimes do charcoal work to get an extra income, a job that I find it tedious.
