Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was just preparing breakfast for my family when I received the message notification. Upon checking, I realized it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I felt so happy and I started planning how best I would utilize the transfers.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
A lot has changed in my life since GiveDirectly came into my life the biggest difference that I can mention is the fact that I now own a pair of oxen that I am currently rearing in my compound. It has been my desire to keep them but they were very costly. Owning then has brought great relief to me because previously I used to hire from neighbors during the planting season which was a bit expensive especially on many acres. I am now a happy farmer because I will no longer be hiring, instead, I will be hiring to friends at a fee and earning an income.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent a larger portion of my first transfer on buying some livestock such as a pair of oxen. I have been aspiring to own them for so long because of their numerous benefits but I could not afford it due to my financial status. The remaining amount of money, I used it in purchasing some foodstuffs for my family and other basic needs which include good clothes and many more.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My ambition has been to start livestock keeping but due to financial constraints, this dream has not yet fulfilled. Receiving this money means that I will purchase a pair of oxen $ 800 and an ox plow at $ 300. I will train them on how to dig so that they help me cultivate my shamba and this will provide me with enough food for my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My happiest part of the day is in the afternoon. It is at this time when I prepare and enjoy eating my food. Unlike in the morning, when am busy with shamba work.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life is the lack of a reliable source of income. I am an old man who is jobless this has been a challenge to me because being forced to depend on my child who is also unemployed.
