How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than it would have been if I never received transfers from GiveDirectly in that I spent my first transfer on buying building materials such as iron sheets, a window, nails and timber to build a descent house. Previously, I was living in an old small leaky house which was unsuitable for habitation. I also spent the second transfer on buying a bicycle which has greatly made my movement very easy. I no longer need to spend money on using a motorcycle whenever I want to move to any place within my location.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I believe that GiveDirectly does well in helping the most poor in the communities where it works by giving them financial support which are meant to transform their lives. It is a very straight forward organization since it ensured that all promises that were given to the people enrolled in its program were fulfilled. There is nothing that I have seen GiveDirectly not doing well so far.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying a bicycle which I shall be using to aid my movements. This will help me save a lot money I have been using to move from one point to the other within my location. Moreover, I bought building soil for smearing my house which I had built with the first transfer because the soil in our area is weak and every house built with such soil never lasts longer. Lastly, I spent the rest on buying two cows from which I shall be obtaining milk when they give birth. I shall be selling milk obtained from those cows to earn an additional income for my household thus we shall be self-reliant.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means liberation from poverty. I am a widower with school going children that need fees, clothing and food. I would like to spend the transfer on paying school fees and invest the remaining part in agriculture.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when I get paid for the casual labor that I offer and buy food for my children. The essence of provision to my family brings me joy and happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I am facing in life is lack of money to educate my children. I am elderly and unable to complete the job market of casual labor that is the main source of income in this community. This makes life so difficult and ever challenging.
