How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different after managing to own a dairy cow with the help of the transfer. I have been selling surplus milk and using the remaining liters for household consumption which has enabled us to cut the cost of buying milk. I am also proud to have managed to offset school fees balance for my child with ease.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
What I loved about this organization is the fairness culture that they had when we were being enrolled in the program. People were treated equally without looking at different financial status. I was also happy that they came all the way right into our village.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My life has improved after reducing the burden of paying part of the school fees for my daughter. I am also glad that I built a house too. The fact that I haven't had to sell land to educate my child is the best gift that I received from GiveDirectly.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the construction of a new house which we never had before. For a long time, we have been praying over this idea of constructing a new house that came to pass after receiving our first transfer. We are really thankful that this had to happen at this time so that we can start planning other bigger projects going forward.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Happiness was all over at the moment we received the money from GiveDirectly. We had to celebrate in singing and ululations just like any other member of the village. We saw ourselves as a lucky group, something which made the members of the surrounding villages came over and witness the joy that we had. At that moment you could hear whispers from many saying that God really exists since they were also foreseeing the great changes that were soon coming into our village.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
After receiving the first transfer from GiveDirectly, we had a lot in mind which we needed to accomplish as a household. We needed a new house so we had to purchase woods and iron sheets to aid in construction. We also needed to fence our open fields to ease the grazing our livestock and adding more woods was not an option and also a roll of barbed wire. Food for the household was also a priority and finally, we decided to spend the remaining amount on paying the constructor who was working on our new house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money is an opportunity for me to solve a few pressing issues. One;My family lives in a small hut and being the only house,it serves all purposes including cooking. Most times our clothes get discloured by smoke and I have always wished I could build a separate iron-roofed house.Secondly,I have a child in boarding school and being a single parent, paying his fees together with all the household needs is always a big challenge hence this money will relieve me on that. And lastly,I will use 30 Usd from the transfer to buy a cow that will serve as a source of income even when the money is finished.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. This is the time that as my children leave for a nearby primary school,I also embark on working in my vegetable garden. At this time,my mind is often fresh and body relaxed after the night's rest hence am energetic and this makes me happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being a single parent, all the needs of my family is all on me.I have children in school who require school fees among other needs within the household.I normally grow vegetables for sale and sometimes buy from neighbours to sell at a nearby market. However, this business does not provide me sufficient income to cover all these needs as well as improve my home.It has even become more difficult owing to long drought seasons that has affected crop production.Basically, the biggest hardship I have faced is lack of money to meet the needs of my family.
