How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I do not have any new goal. However, my desire has been to concentrate on our most recently established business courtesy of GiveDirectly's cash transfer. Infact, through the proceeds we get from this business, our living standards have been on a positive trajectory mode.My husband has been the main breadwinner even though things have not been rossy at his work place in the recent times since covid came knocking. On the contrary, we are glad that GiveDirectly came through for us in the nick of time and we are stabilizing economically. Thank you GiveDirectly. My husband's main occupation as a chef in our new restaurant courtesy of GiveDirectly's transfer has already improved our living standards. He had been working from hotel to hotel but over the years our fear has been employers changing their mind to release him from work. Thanks to GiveDirectly. We are now at peace.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly has been a game changer in that, most of the goals that people had not achieved over years were realized within a short period of time. Infact, I cannot pin point on any thing that GiveDirectly does not do well. Thanks you GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Earlier on, we had a tinny house which for a long time we had purposed to either renovate or put up a new one altogether. Since I was just a house wife and my husband being a cook at the nearby restaurant on a casual basis, building a new one was just a dream for us for we were operating on a hand to mouth lifestyle. However, this cash transfer from GiveDirectly was a game changer in our lives for we were able to construct a more spacious house to it's completion. Besides, we had agreed with my hubby to start a business of operating a restaurant which we executed successfully. We have been meeting our family's needs with ease unlike before.Thank you GiveDirectly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It was around 11:00 am when I received money from GiveDirectly.i informed my husband who was far away from home and he was so happy as well. We planned on how the money was going to be spent and later withdrew the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is the newly built house. I get so overwhelmed with joy whenever I see this dream house for us. I hardly thought I would be able to put up one soon.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We spent KES 50000 of the money to build a new house for the family and used the remaining amount to buy food and other basic household needs for the family. We were living in a small grass thatched house and it had always been my desire to build a better house for my family. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly for the support that enabled me realize this dream that would otherwise have continued being just a dream. My for children now have a place to call home courtesy of GiveDirectly.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means building a spacious house for my family. I am a mother of four children and we are all living in the same one bedroom house with a grass roof. There is no privacy and it leaks during rains season. I will build a two bedroom house at a cost of KES. 70000. I will also use KES. 30000 to buy two cows as investment. This will help me for emergency cases in future. I will use KES.10000 to buy food for the family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband got a job last month at Mombasa. This is after staying home since 2020 when Covid-19 came to our country. I am now happy because every end month the family will have money for domestic uses. The job that my husband secured brought happiness to me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of water and food is the current challenge I am facing. We last had rains in our village three years a go. That has caused drought and famine in our village. Most of the time, I do agriculture for family use. Due to lack of rains ,I do not do it again. So lack of food has made my children grow very weak. They take one meal in a day
