What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I solely depend on farming to earn a living and for the longest time I have been relying on my neighbors water pipes to irrigate my farm. I plan on using $350 to purchase a 100m pipe and a generator. This will reduce the cost I spend on leasing from my neighbors and also enabling me to expand on my farming acreage. From this , I will double on production hence more returns. I am thankful to Givedirectly because I will be able to farm throughout the year comfortably.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I had planted an acre of maize six months ago, and after three months I harvested twenty bags of maize from it. I was able to sell ten bags of maize and paid school fees for my daughter and the rest i have stored it to ensure my family has enough food throughout the year. I am happy because even if drought hits in the next few months, I already have enough food.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial constraints are the greatest challenge to us. We depend on livestock to be able to meet our basic needs. At the moment the price of goats at the market has really gone down hence low returns. This has affected our ability to meet our basic needs comfortably compared to if we had a stable source of income.
