How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I renovated my house to look better. I depend on scale farming to earn income I also depend on my children to support me. I do not have a continuous source of income. I had always wished to renovated my house but I didn't had the money to buy the materials. When I received the second transfer I found it Worth to renovated it. My house now look so decent, the iron sheets no longer look rusted. I no longer fear welcoming visitors to my house. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard and enable us achieve our dreams.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on renovating my house, I also paid part of the school fees for my grandchild and the rest of the money I bought food for the family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My daughter who's a business lady came home at around 1pm while taking lunch. She informed me that GiveDirectly had sent me my transfers as promised and she had even withdrawn because she had my phone with her. On hearing the good news and seeing the GiveDirectly transfers I was overwhelmed with joy and thanked God for GiveDirectly because I had never received such a lump sum before.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is happiness because I have adequate food.As an old woman, I normally on my kids for food and clothing. This time around GiveDirectly transfers has made it possible for me to buy food in bulk hence relieved my kids of my food purchasing costs. I am also happy because my house has become more beautiful and neat than before through the GiveDirectly transfers.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of my transfer on improving my house roof top because the Ironsheets had become old. I also spent KES 12, 000 on three maize sacks because the maize crop hasn't been doing well in our place and we have suffered for a long time now. The rest was spent on payment of my church tithes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been aspiring to own a dairy cow. We had used a lot of resource to finance treatment for my late husband. It will cost me around 30,000shillings to purchase esher cow which is the best breed in our area.On the other hand am planning to fence my compound using a Channing wire which will cost me approximately 40,000 shillings. The remaining amount will cater for my food stuffs since am getting old and unable to work on my two acre farm.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Since am a house wife and getting old I always wake up as early as 6am to prepare breakfast and set a side time to work around my compound clearing bushes and checking on my vegetables at my farm.Doing this gives me joy that I can still make my compound clean. Therefore I consider morning hours as my happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced was financing treatment for my ailing husband. The hospital bill was getting huge every now then till we could not afford any more. The saddest thing we lost him after trying all we could.
