How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have paid the debts that we bad borrowed a neighbor to build a house for my family. We had borrowed money from my neighbor to build a spacious and better house. We depend on casual jobs in the village and sometimes to get this jobs is so hard. We rarely get an income, sometimes maybe when we sell our harvest. I was so stress up on where to get the money to repaid the debts. Our neighbor whom we borrowed money was reminding us to paid him. We never had peace of mind. It was so stressful. When we received the second transfer we paid him in full. This was a break through in our life because we had peace again. Thanks to GiveDirectly for being supportive and coming over to bless us again. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard, we can now do our daily chores without being disturbed.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the second transfer on building a shopping premise, I also used some amount to plough my farm on time and planted maize and beans, The rest of the money I paid the outstanding debts that I had borrowed to build a house for my family.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 10.30pm when I was at my farm when my neighbor asked me if I had received the transfers but unfortunately I had left my phone at home.Hurriedly, I headed back home and on checking my phone I confirmed from the Mpesa notification that indeed I had received the transfers.I was filled with joy and imediately informed my husband who advised me to meet him in the nearest MoMo agent.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is buying my own dairy cow.I had desired to buy one for the past seven years but we couldn't afford because we used to rely on my husband who does casual painting. I am grateful because in the next one year my heifer will have grown and given birth hence increased milk and income for my family. I am also happy because through the GD transfers I have managed to built my own modern kitchen which is in it's last stages of construction.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 16,000 on building a new and spacious semi permanent kitchen because the one had was old, tiny with leaking grass thatched roof. I spent KES 19,000 on a heifer because I used to rely on someone's else dairy cow but in the next one year I intend to have increased milk production. I also spent KES 2000 on payment of school fees for my kids who are in lower primary school. I also spent KES 10,000 on latest clothing fashion for my family because initially we used to put on second hand clothes which quite cheaper. I also spent KES 4200 on maize meal, rice and beans. The rest I have saved for household consumption.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a lot to me as a person. First, I will use half of the money on buying a lactating cow and the rest to food. Since 2014 when I started living in this household we have never had a cow of our own.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of the day is in the evening when we meet together to take supper with my family. During the day, there are a lot of responsibilities running that can hinder my happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship in my life was when we starved due to lack of enough food for almost a year, from January to April 2020. That time we didn't have anything to eat because there was no family income at that time.
