Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My husband was home when the transfer came in, I was sitting outside enjoying the fresh air when my husband rushed to where I was informed that we had received the promised transfer, I could not believe my eyes, I thought maybe he wanted to see how I will react, I then took the phone and confirmed after reading the Mpesa text, this was the wonderful news that we had received that early morning, I knew that I will be able to expand my business and that alone was satisfying. I am grateful for the support that made me expand my business empire to a greater height.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am hopeful that after expanding the chicken house, the returns will be good, I will be able to bring in more birds, is this was possible because of the transfer that I had received from GiveDirectly, I also cleared fee arrears that I had, my mind is settled mow because everything is flowing just the way we had planned. I am grateful because GiveDirectly allowed me to expand my business, this was in my plans but it never came to pass because of so many responsibilities that we had. My life is better now and I am thankful.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Farming is my passion, I love trying out new farming techniques too, I have a poultry farm that I had constructed before, though it is a bit small due to the number of orders that I have, therefore when I transfer came I saw the need of expanding my business by putting aside KES 26,000 that I will use in constructing the chicken house, I then cleared the fee arrears worth KES 10,000, I am grateful that the transfer came at the right time, it allowed me to expand my business.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Self reliance is what receiving this money would mean to me.I mostly rely on my husband to provide food, school fees and clothing. Having my own source of income will be great.I rear chicken but I do not have good housing for them.I would use 40$ to build a poultry house and buy chicken feeds for them so that they can produce eggs which I can sell to get money. We also plan on putting up a good house to live in because my husband is retiring in 2021.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning. When I wake up healthy I thank God and I know I have the strength to do my work during the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
God has blessed me with two grandchildren that I am taking care of as their mother is still in school.Raising them up on my own is a challenge because their mother is still in school.I do not get time to do other things and also I have to provide for them food, clothing and school fees which is a burden.
