How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year, I aim to fence my compound to enhance security against intruders. I plan to save diligently from my earnings as a painter to cover the cost of fencing materials. By setting aside a portion of my painting income, I hope to accumulate enough funds to begin and complete this project within the year. Securing my compound will bring peace of mind and safety to my family, marking a significant improvement in our living environment and ensuring our privacy and security. This goal is attainable through hard work and determination, and I am fully committed to achieving it with the earnings from my painting jobs. With careful planning and saving, I am confident that by this time next year, our compound will be enclosed, providing the necessary security and protection for our household.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Receiving unconditional funds from GiveDirectly was an experience that positively impacted our community. I valued the organization's holistic approach, which extended beyond financial aid. They conducted informative sessions covering a range of topics, including the importance of financial security, especially given the prevalence of mobile money transactions in our daily lives. These sessions not only imparted essential knowledge but also fostered a stronger sense of responsibility in managing our finances. Reflecting on the support from GiveDirectly, I could not find any areas for improvement. I am thankful to GiveDirectly for their thorough and impactful assistance, which has undoubtedly had a lasting positive effect on our community.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My wife and I decided to use our transfer to invest in a poultry farming venture. As a painter with seasonal work, I recognized the importance of having an additional income source during slow periods. We allocated the $40 transfer towards constructing a poultry house, which will provide a stable and reliable income stream when painting jobs are scarce. This decision was made jointly with my wife, who manages a milk-selling business, and we have three children. Thanks to the organization's support, we were able to realize our dream of starting poultry farming, which brings security and stability to our family's financial situation. We are deeply thankful to the organization for empowering us to find a sustainable solution to our income challenges. The impact of this investment has been profound. Our poultry farming project not only offers an alternative income source but also serves as a safety net during uncertain times. With the help of the organization's unconditional cash transfer, we feel more confident about our financial future and our ability to provide for our children. We are grateful to the organization for enabling us to take proactive steps towards securing our livelihoods. This support has motivated us to work diligently to ensure the success and growth of our poultry farming venture, which we hope will benefit our family for years to come.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the coming year and beyond, my goal is to embark on the construction of a new house for my family of five. We previously resided in an old house and later moved to the nearby shopping center, where we now live in a room behind a shop. The deteriorating conditions, with a leaking roof during the rainy season, prompted the need for a more suitable home for my children. Currently, I have demolished the old structure and am optimistic about commencing the construction of a new one. I plan to fund this project through savings from my painting job and the proceeds from the sale of surplus subsistence produce. By strategically saving from my ongoing painting work and gradually purchasing construction materials, I believe the project will eventually be successful. This initiative aligns with my commitment to providing a better living environment for my family.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly's commitment to helping everyone evenly in our village is unmatched. From the initial days of enrollment to the present, we have witnessed significant changes and are forever happy and grateful for the impact derived from the cash support. The idea of directing the support to every individual has been widely embraced, allowing people to decide whether to pull together as a family or spend individually on their projects. Similar positive changes are evident in other neighboring villages that received the money, and I am hopeful that other villages will also be given such an opportunity in the future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
As a painter, I rely on casual jobs, newly constructed homes, and tenders from the nearby shopping center and school to provide for my family of five. Combining the savings from my daily work with the recent $29 from GiveDirectly, I spent $400 in buying three heifers, which I am currently rearing at home. This project is a significant step for me, and I appreciate the support from GiveDirectly, which has been a great boost to my efforts. I am eager to continue exploring new opportunities and projects in the future.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I want to fence out a section of my farm to create a space for my new venture: raising sheep. My plan is to buy five sheep initially and see how it goes. It is going to be a lot of work, but I am ready for the challenge. To finance this project, I have been doing some painting jobs on the side, and I am determined to save every penny from this. I want to ensure that my sheep have the best possible environment and care. It's going to take time, but I am committed to making it happen. On top of the sheep project, I will be expanding my poultry business. The demand for fresh eggs and chicken has been steadily increasing, and it is an opportunity I cannot pass up. With a dedicated section for the sheep and a well-organized poultry setup, I am optimistic that my farm will flourish in the coming year.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
One thing that really impressed me about the program is how they always prioritize our mobile money security. They constantly remind us to be cautious and vigilant when it comes to our transactions, which makes us feel safe and protected. It is reassuring to know that they genuinely care about our well-being beyond just providing financial support. Another aspect that stood out to me was how well everything was explained throughout the process. From the initial communication about the program to receiving the money .GiveDirectly's transparency and clarity have made the entire experience smooth and straightforward. I am truly grateful for the positive impact they have had on our lives.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
As a poultry farmer and painter, I wanted to invest in my farm to ensure the safety and well-being of my chickens. So, I decided to buy a sturdy wire mesh to fence my chicken coop. It was essential to prevent my precious birds from straying into neighboring farms and causing any trouble. With the wire mesh in place, I felt a sense of relief knowing that my chickens were safe and would not cause any conflicts with other farmers. As a family man with three children, my wife's farming work, and my artistic endeavors, every penny from the cash transfer was valuable. The cash transfer truly made a positive impact on our lives, and I was determined to make the most of it.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the next one year and beyond I hope to accomplish a lot including improving my poultry project. My target is fo rear upto 30 chicken before end of this year. I already have 7 chicken that I rear and my vision is to increase this number to 30 before the year ends. This will make my life and that of my family very affordable. It is through GiveDirectly transfers that we are going to benefit from GiveDirectly transfers.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion GiveDirectly does very well by giving us cash and giving the money devoid of conditions on how to spend. Looking at what I have been able to achieve with these transfers I can only be grateful to God for them. It has brought a lot of positive change to me and my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
When I received my most recent transfer of $29, I used the entire amount to buy a chickenwire. The money came at a time that I was considering venturing into poultry keeping as a source of livelihood. I was so encouraged by a neighbour of mine who has started the poultry project and who currently has 30 chicken that she keeps in her compound. I have since bought some chicken as well that I hope to expand going forward. GiveDirectly transfers shall be of great help to me in making this project a reality.
